Korean Government Reduces Mandatory Military Service to 18 Months

Some more changes are coming to the ROK military:

The defense ministry said Wednesday it will complete reducing the mandatory military service period to 18 months by next year as planned as part of a series of reform projects under way to make the military “smaller and stronger.”

During a meeting on defense reform presided over by Defense Minister Suh Wook, officials said the military is on course to cut the service period for Army draftees to 18 months by December 2021, according to the ministry.

All able-bodied South Korean men must carry out compulsory military service for about two years in a country that faces North Korea across a heavily fortified border.

Other reform measures include raising the proportion of female service members and decreasing the number of generals with one to four stars.

The number of female service members stood at 7.4 percent this year, 0.6 percentage point higher than the previous year.

Among 76 general positions subject to reduction, 46 have been cut so far, the ministry said.

18 months for some recruits is about the time they learn to walk in a straight line. Good luck Korea.

So US soldiers on two year orders will serve to protect Korea longer than Korean’s own citizens? Ridiculous

Aren’t the 2-year assignments for accompanied tours? The Korean conscripts are not on accompanied tours, nor do they get the benefits that American troops do.

Do the ROKs vaccinate their military for anthrax? A follow on: If not, then why does the US vaccinate for anthrax as a prerequisite to go to Korea?

“The Korean conscripts are not on accompanied tours”

Hmmm… that’s right. When Korean conscripts enter the military, they send their spouses to live in America for the duration of their enlistment.

By 2025, this program will include their parents as well.

Some Korean spouses complain about having to live in Fayetteville for 18 months but, hey, freedom isn’t free.

Johnhenry really doesn’t think about all he writes. It’s not fair to criticize his logic-challenged posts.

Nor should we criticize his support for poor dementia victim Joey Fingers– credibly accused of rape, self-confessed kiddie fondler with hairy legs, and corruptocrat who blackmailed Ukraine to fire the prosecutor looking into his son’s strange business dealings. So don’t even try to connect his living in Beijing with anything unpatriotic. Even when he refuses to say anything nice about America.

After all, if XiNN isn’t reporting it, did it really happen?

I’m beginning to wonder why setnaffa, who really is not a stupid person, is carrying water for that piece of shit, bigoted jackass CH. I’m also beginning to wonder why he, despite his call for logic, is incapable of parsing same to realize that Biden has been flasely maligned. And where have I refused to say anything nice about America, the country I love?

So an 18 month conscript in ROK army will be away from home for 18 months, but it ok for a US military member to defend Korea for 2 years because they might be here with their spouse? A spouse, if they do come, had to stop their career and move away from family and friends. The Conscript will still, most likely, get his various leaves in that 18 months…yeah the hardship is overwhelming. ROK government gets away with paying its soldiers pennies and skimping on equipment is because the US military is here.

“Biden has been flasely maligned.”

Then you should have no trouble openly stating that you condemn adults who touch children inappropriately… well… unless touching children is not just a political choice but also a personal choice.

“And where have I refused to say anything nice about America, the country I love?”

O.K. Say anything nice about America. Then defend your statement in a discussion.

CH, like most leftists, johnhenry will continue to deflect, toss out random ad hominems, and ignore any direct questions. He will parse out weird tangents and respond only to try to change the subject.

I tend to think there was a time when johnhenry was capable of having an honest conversation; but now the CCP has videoes they’ve threatened to release if he responds like a patriotic American man.

He could prove us both wrong by simply saying nice things about America, admitting the arrest of the innocent 12 year old girl in Hong Kong was wrong, and admitting the news videoes of Joey Fingers display a troublesome collage of inappropriate touching of women and children–even ignoring Bidet gushing over his blackmailing Ukraine to fire a prosecutor, talking about having children rub his legs in a pool, and the statements by unhappy Secret Service agents about how he “swum neckid in front of the wimmin”.

But he won’t. He’s morphing into a sad caricature of himself. I had hoped it was not too late for him.
