Picture of the Day: South Korea Delays School Year Until March 23rd

Education Minister Yoo Eun-hae announces an additional two-week delay to the opening of primary and secondary schools, at the government complex in Seoul, on March 2, 2020, amid the rapid spread of the new coronavirus in South Korea. (Yonhap)

Headlines in April will report an unprecedented rise in infanticide during the month of March.
Hagwons will probably offer extended hours.
That is just a placeholder date to kick the can down the road.
No politician in his right mind will allow what we KNOW will happen… leaky little kids will form little disease cluster… and then take it home to kill grandma.
Everything is going to video and online. It will be up and running in a few weeks. It will be a somewhat seamless transition to simply not have physical classes this semester.
ChickenHead: “Everything is going to video and online.”
I’m kind of wondering if this outbreak is going to lead to an unintended shift in Korean work culture where the number of people who are allowed to tele-work from home is going to (dramatically?) increase. It’s fairly common to tele-work from home (or from the road) in America. But I don’t think it’s a common thing in Korea; which is still in that “how the hell do you work from home?” stage. But it’s only like that because they just haven’t yet figured out that how doable it is. Of course, the a-hole boss might not like it if his employees aren’t right there under his thumb … so who knows.
Lots of things are changing… from food sharing culture to work culture.
Korea will be a different country by next fall.
Are korean schools starting back up tomorrow?
Schools have delayed their opening until April 6th now. It will be interesting to see if this actually happens.
