China is like Korea. You can leave your money on the table and it will still be there.
I cannot speak of the basic decency of Chinese mind and culture, but:
– everyone with a phone is tracked
– everyone with a face is tracked
There is no petty crime because there is essentially a zero percent chance of not being caught.
The authoritarian capitalism and surveillance state of modern China has worked very well for Chinese prosperity and quality of life, and the vast majority of the Chinese are grateful and support the state.
History shows a benevolent government is temporary.
