Media and Activists Claim that BTS Garbage Pail Kid Card is Racist

Not a good look for Topps, but the reaction is of course overblown with claims of racism:

Following backlash, Garbage Pail Kids has apologized and removed a sticker card portraying Korean boy band BTS with bruises. The trading card brand issued the apology as Asian-American communities in the U.S. are dealing with a rash of hate crimes.

PR Week

You can read more at the link, but Topps pulled the BTS Card. However, I don’t think Topps did anything racist as the media and activists are claiming. They have been making Garbage Pail Kids cards for decades that are violent and grotesque, this is nothing new. For example below is a card of a caveman hitting a woman over the head with a club and dragging her away. Should women’s groups start protesting now too?:

Garbage Pail Kids Card

Here is a card with a white kid shot full of holes. Is Topps racist towards white kids?

Of course not, just like Topps isn’t racist towards Asians for a card having a Grammy trophy hitting them in the face. With that said you can still get the other Garbage Pail Kids “Shammy” Cards at this link.

Mandatory Foreigner COVID Testing Requirement Rescinded By South Korean Authorities

It didn’t take long to get this order targeting foreigners rescinded:

People including foreign residents wait in a long line at a makeshift COVID-19 testing center in front of Guro Station in Seoul, Friday, to undergo testing. Controversy has intensified over Seoul City and Gyeonggi Province’s administrative orders forcing all foreign workers to undergo COVID-19 testing, with critics calling the orders “racial discrimination.” Yonhap

The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Friday withdrew its controversial administrative order forcing all foreign workers in the capital region to undergo COVID-19 testing, after having faced mounting criticism over alleged discrimination and violations of foreign residents’ human rights.

The city said its order, issued on Wednesday, was changed to an “advisory” for foreign workers to receive a test by the end of the month if their workplaces have a high risk of infection.

North Korea Cuts Diplomatic Relations with Malaysia

The Malaysian courts just did a real solid for the U.S. and the Kim regime is not happy:

North Korea said Friday it will cut off diplomatic relations with Malaysia for extraditing one of its nationals to the United States to face money laundering charges and pinned Washington as the “backstage manipulator.”

Mun Chol-myong, a North Korean businessmen living in Malaysia, was accused of supplying prohibited luxury items from Singapore to Pyongyang and laundering funds through shell companies in violation of U.N. sanctions. Last week, Malaysia’s top court ruled that he can be extradited to Washington, rejecting his appeal challenging the extradition request from the U.S.

Yonhap

You can read more at the link, but I think the Malaysian authorities have always maintained animosity at the Kim regime in the wake of using a nerve agent to kill Kim Jong-nam in the Kuala Lumpur airport. They are probably glad to be done with the North Koreans in their country.

Couple in New York Accused of Tricking Korean Women into Prostitution

The old trick them into prostitution strategy is alive and well:

A Queens couple faces sex trafficking charges for tricking two South Korean women into prostitution by helping them pay for their travel and offering them a restaurant job in the U.S. (…….)

One of the victims answered an ad she found in South Korea in 2015 promising her a job in the U.S. and travel expenses paid by her employers, according to the Astoria Post. As part of their agreement, her employers required her to pay the $10,000 they used for transportation and her passport fees. Jung Ja picked up the victim at the John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and brought her to an address in Steinway Street, Astoria. However, the deal suddenly changed, and she informed her that she would work as a prostitute to pay off her debt to the Ornsteins. The suspects allegedly forced her to have sex with strangers at the address.
