Expert Says Defenses of U.S. Military Pacific Bases are at Risk of Chinese and North Korean Drone and Missile Attacks

Too many people think missile defense is a magic force field when the fact is that it buys commanders time to disperse assets and go on the offense. Just the disparity in the number of interceptors compared to enemy missiles is evidence enough of this fact:

Seth Jones, president of the Defense and Security Department at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), made the remarks in an op-ed released by The Wall Street Journal on Sunday, following reports that the United States is running low on key missile defense interceptors amid the Middle East war.

Noting that advancements in drone and missile warfare have pushed Ukraine and Russia to take extensive steps to protect their bases since their full-scale war began in 2022, Jones argued that the U.S. has been “too slow” to learn from the war and protect its bases and other infrastructure in the Middle East.

“The challenge in the Pacific is much greater. China presents a more serious threat than Iran with a larger and more capable stockpile of drones and cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles,” he said.

“U.S. military bases and other infrastructure across the Pacific — from Japan and the Philippines to Guam and South Korea — are highly vulnerable to Chinese and North Korean missiles and drones,” he added.

The expert called on the U.S. to get serious about protecting its critical infrastructure, stressing the need to take an array of steps, including increasing “active defenses,” such as air defense systems that can identify, shoot down or otherwise disrupt incoming missiles and drones.

He also called for the U.S. to ramp up “passive defenses,” such as digging underground facilities for vital infrastructure; increase its use of camouflage, concealment and deception; and disperse its military facilities to make it more difficult for potential adversaries to attack.

You can read more at the link, but hardening buildings and digging underground facilities is very expensive and Congressmen and Generals would rather buy shiny new F-35s and naval destroyers.

Not sure who or what this “Seth Young” serves; but it seems it is not America.

Considering Trump used up almost all of the air and missile defense munitions to pursue his needless war with Iran, no doubt the USFK facilities are wide open to attack from the DPRK.

The MAGA has certainly weakened America and put her service people at risk of missile and drone attacks.

“…no doubt the USFK facilities are wide open to attack from the DPRK.”

Fortunately, the ability to intercept missiles is not the biggest FAFO deterrent so you are creating a problem that does not exist, whining about it, and claiming some sort of imaginary wise victory.

Fortunately, Patriot missiles will start supporting MAGA causes instead of being squandered in Ukraine.

Russia has gotten wise to this… and is having a 100% hit rate with missiles these days while Zelenskyy cries from the script of his masters.

With oil at 70-something per barrel and American refineries running at 100% capacity, I totally forgot there was a war going on with Iran.

I had pity for the Iranian people. No more.

They can destroy the regime they were talked into installing by Muslims and communists or they can starve.

Gas in the US is about US$4.10 per gallon, it was US$2.81 before Trump got into the unnecessary war with Iran, which is about a 50% increase.

Since you totally forgot, this means three things;

  1. You don’t own a car
  2. You are willing to look the other way because Trump gives you supposed mental comfort when it comes to supposedly holding back wokedness, liberal ideals, and immigrants and don’t realize he’s destroying America.
  3. You are being paid by China so high gas prices in the US do not concern you.

Where I live, gas was around $2.18 a gallon before the start of the debacle with Iran, right now it’s around $3.39 a gallon. That’s not top-tier gas, BTW, but places like Sam’s Club or Walmart. Top-tier gas is between $3.79 and $4, depending on location.

“You don’t own a car”

But I do. And if the price of gas doubled, I wouldn’t notice. If gas price is an issue to you, take the bus.

“You are willing to look the other way because Trump gives you supposed mental comfort when it comes to supposedly holding back wokedness, liberal ideals, and immigrants and don’t realize he’s destroying America.”

Trump gives me mental comfort because he has brought some degree of merit back into American culture by holding back the discrimination of wokeness, the toxicity of (neo)liberal ideas, and the destructive force of illegal immigrants.

I don’t realize he is destroying America and no libtard, including you, have been able to give a rational explanation for how he might be doing it.

“You are being paid by China so high gas prices in the US do not concern you.”

Glad you reminded me to send my gas expense voucher to the Chinese consulate.

I could also be paid by America well enough that high gas prices in the US don’t concern me… or Korea… or a private company… or my own company… or a mixture of all of them to some extent.

Maybe I make my gas money pimping out your mom.

Naw. That’s a stupid idea. I’d have to drive a moped.
