Helped by sailors, a resident from a remote island arrives on South Korea’s first military training vessel, Hansando (rear), off Jin Island, South Jeolla Province, southwestern South Korea, on June 21, 2021, after a high-speed boat carrying her was hauled onto the ship’s stern. The Navy has conducted an operation to help residents from remote islands, which are devoid of medical facilities, receive shots of COVID-19 vaccines at a mass vaccination center installed on the ship. The 4,500-ton Hansando is equipped with the largest medical center and the highest number of sickbeds among the country’s warships. (Yonhap)

Military Bases in Daegu Ranked as 2nd Riskiest for Males to Be Sexually Assaulted

If you are a male soldier stationed in Daegu here is something to be aware of:

The Wetzel military housing community in Baumholder, Germany. A new Rand Corp. report found that male soldiers based at Baumholder were more at risk of being sexually assaulted than any at other Army post, citing 2018 data.

Male soldiers based at Baumholder in Germany were more at risk of being sexually assaulted than at any other Army post, according to a service-commissioned study that found two other posts in Germany with similar risks.

A Rand Corp. report released Friday examined sexual assault data at U.S. Army bases worldwide and found elevated risks of male sexual assault at Vilseck and Landstuhl in Germany.  (……..)

When adjusting for key factors such as age, marital status and education, LRMC rated as the riskiest, followed by Baumholder and Daegu, South Korea, the report said.

Kim Yo-jong Sharply Criticizes Any Expectations of Talks with the U.S.

Kim Yo-jong is out playing the bad cop again:

Kim Yo-jong

The sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said Tuesday that the United States has “wrong” expectations after U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan called Kim’s comments about dialogue with the U.S. an “interesting signal.”

The statement from Kim Yo-jong also came a day after U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim said the U.S. has offered to meet with the North “anywhere, anytime without preconditions” and looks forward to Pyongyang responding positively to the overtures.

“I heard the news that the U.S. National Security Advisor had mentioned that he regards the position towards the U.S. as an ‘interesting signal,'” she said in the statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency said.

“A Korean proverb says that ‘In a dream, what counts most is to read it, not to have it,'” she said. “It seems that the U.S. may interpret the situation in such a way as to seek a comfort for itself. The expectation, which they chose to harbour the wrong way, would plunge them into a greater disappointment.”

You can read more at the link, but like I have said before, the Kim regime will meet when they feel like they will get something of value out of it for little to nothing in return. So far the Biden administration is not willing to offer that.

Report Claims that US-ROK Exercises Maybe Bargaining Chip to Get North Korea to Return to Talks

Like I said before the Kim regime is not going to meet with the U.S. unless they get something out of it:

Sung Kim, the U.S. special representative for North Korea, arrives at Incheon International Airport, Saturday. Yonhap

“Ahead of Kim’s visit, the North Korean leader made conciliatory remarks. In that respect, depending on what messages the U.S. nuclear envoy will deliver, whether stalled nuclear talks between the U.S. and North Korea will resume will be decided,” said Cheong Seong-chang, director of Center for North Korean Studies at the Sejong Institute.

The U.S. side may consider downsizing or suspending its combined military drills with South Korea, scheduled for August among other “carrots” for the resumption of nuclear talks. The North Korean regime has strongly denounced the annual exercises, held biannually in spring and summer, as a rehearsal for invasion.

Last month, President Moon Jae-in also mentioned the impossibility of a full-scale drill, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, although many believe that his reference had to do with his last-ditch efforts to improve inter-Korean ties before his presidency ends in May of next year.

In addition, a possible provision of COVID-19 vaccines to North Korea may be on the agenda during a series of meetings.

Sung Kim Hopes to Meet with the North Koreans Anytime Without Pre-Conditions

Good luck with this:

The United States has offered to meet with North Korea “anywhere, anytime without preconditions” and looks forward to a positive response from Pyongyang, the new U.S. special envoy for the North said Monday.

Ambassador Sung Kim made the remarks during trilateral talks with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts, Noh Kyu-duk and Takehiro Funakoshi, in Seoul, where they discussed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s recent remarks that his country should be ready for both dialogue and confrontation.

You can read more at the link, but the Kim regime will meet when they feel like they will get something of value out of it. Kim Jong-un met with former President Trump because Moon Jae-in gave him assurances that Trump was ready for a large deal. Trump was close to signing a deal, but Kim would only give up part of his nuclear weapons program and thus why diplomacy failed.

Moon now has little creditability with Pyongyang and the Biden administration is not offering anything new thus why diplomacy is currently at a stalemate.

Japan to Allow Up to 10,000 Local Fans for Tokyo Olympics

It will be interesting to see if local fans includes expats and military that are living in Japan:

Journalists gather at Multifunctional Complex at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Village during a media tour Sunday, June 20, 2021, in Tokyo.

The Tokyo Olympics will allow some local fans to attend when the games open in just over a month, organizing committee officials and the IOC said on Monday.

Organizers set a limit of 50% of capacity up to a maximum of 10,000 fans for all Olympic venues.

The decision was announced after so-called Five Party talks online with local organizers, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the Japanese government and the government of metropolitan Tokyo.
