Southeastern Korea Sees Highest Temperatures Since Modern Weather Records Were First Kept in 1904

It is currently scorching hot in Korea:

Temperatures soared to a record high of 42.5 C in the southeastern city of Yangsan on Sunday, as a scorching heat wave continues to grip South Korea, the state weather agency said.

The mercury reached 42 C in Yangsan, about 310 kilometers southeast of Seoul, at 1:16 p.m. and further rose to 42.5 C at 1:26 p.m., according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

It marked the highest reading since modern weather observations began on the Korean Peninsula in 1904, based on records from the KMA’s 97 long-term observation stations.

Headline: Southeastern Korea Sees Highest Temperatures Since Modern Weather Records Were First Kept in 1904

Story: Naturally hot Yangsan’s urban heat island effect was worsened by a 36% increase in solar radiation absorption due to rising concrete surfaces, acting as a massive heat-retaining radiator. Additionally, high-rise construction in the mountain valley basin blocked natural air circulation, trapping hot air within the city limits.

Short Version: Global warming is being blamed for local warming.

Thousands of years ago, Asian farmers created a hybrid of the citron and the bitter orange.
This created a fruit that did not, and does not, grow as a wild, independent species in nature.

Life didn’t give us lemons.

We brought that shìt on ourselves.

Orlando is about the hottest place in Florida because…CH is right, it has a lot of concrete and construction blocking airflow. Until around sometime in the late 70s or early 80s homes were designed with airflow in mind. My husband grew up in a home in Hialeah without air conditioning and only one fan.
And the worst hurricane to hit Florida on record was the one that took out the Flagler railroad and killed hundreds, in the 1930s (IIRC)
