We were told the war in Iran is over, that America won. They said the Strait of Hormuz is open for business.
So why is the war still going on? Why isn’t the ships able to sail through the Strait still and why is the oil price still going up crazy?
Why is the US still dropping bombs on civilians in Iran?
War not over yet? Was it all a lie or wishful thinking?
This is making the world’s economy worse and worse and all our lives are becoming miserable due to high prices for everything.
I see the only way for this war to be over is for the US to send ground troops to Iran. I want to see the US institute the Vietnam-era-style military draft and send their young men and women over to Iran and get them killed by the thousands. That’s the only way for this war to end, unfortunately.

Full Disclosure: I am in contact with many Iranians. I was able to keep in contact with some even during the internet blackout.
Iranians are very pro-American and the majority hate their government. A small but sociopathic minority enthusiastically work for the government, including relatives of the people I keep in contact with.

America has no interest in reducing the Iranian civilian population’s favorable attitude toward America. True civilian deaths are unintentional.
Events like the bombing of the girl’s school were engineered by Iran which stores military assets in civilian areas. They cleverly leaked this information but replaced the military assets with schoolgirls.

I don’t know what the case is in Canada.
I suspect it’s a combination of things but there are parts of the US where we try to prevent and extinguish fire where it naturally would occur and what should be grasslands turn into forests.
As Chickenhead pointed out more people are living in these areas than before which places more attention on losses.
There are places where forests should be actively managed to clear dead trees and brush but aren’t because the eco extremists fear chainsaws the same as scary black rifles. It’s easier to contain fire if there is adequate spacing maintained between healthy trees.
There is also an overlap with places that don’t allow active forest management and places that subsidize homelessness and put an emphasis on “criminal justice reform” or simply don’t lock up the people who need to be in jail or an asylum.
Those folks don’t care about having fire outdoors during dry spells and high wind events. A subset of them start fires on purpose.
I don’t think it’s been proven as of yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the fires are being started by eco nuts trying to bring attention to climate issues. “If you don’t listen to our complaints, we can guarantee the worst fire season in history.”
Like many other things in this day and age, we can’t come up with a solution if we can’t come to a consensus on what the problem is.
Maybe after the brightest minds tackle the important things like whether or not men can get pregnant.
The US and Canada have a joint agreement for wildland and fire mitigation cooperation. We share firefighting resources and people with them, and they share with us.
I lived in Colorado for seven years and fire is a big problem out there. Before we moved many properties around us were getting uninsurable due to this risk. Interestingly, somewhere around 8400 feet up the oxygen level is such that fires are less likely to occur (that does’t mean it is incapable of burning, just mitigated a bit…once a fire burns hot and the wind picks it up to a certain speed nothing much stands in its way). Another interesting fact, since aspens are largely one organism growing underground they are protective in such environments so it helps to chop down the conifer pines and let the aspens take over more. That’s about all I know about fire mitigation….other than don’t start any fires when it is dry, which is a good portion of the time in Colorado if there’s not a good bit of snow on the ground.
At the moment DC is covered in smog from the northern fires (I’m told by people living in the purgatory that is DC).

Climate change:
Whenever somebody yaps about climate change, you can discount anything else they say. It shows they are irrationally ideological and disconnected from reality.
Climate change is not a problem to solve (especially by jealously destroying civilization and the lifestyle of those who succeed in it). It is a situation to manage. And it can be managed to mankind’s benefit… especially if the stinkin hippies are beat into submission so the engineers can get to work.
Keep in mind, the slight increase in CO2 has “greened” the earth, increasing the coverage of plants. Combined with a reduction of farming in many parts of America and Europe, forests have returned from previously cleared farmland. The Chinese are massively planting trees. Korea had almost no trees 70 years ago.
Let’s look at the boreal forests.
(Can’t post multiple links… but simple to find primary sources if you want to confirm.)
– A 2026 satellite study found that from 1985 to 2020, boreal tree cover expanded by about 0.844 million km2 (12%) and shifted northward as trees established beyond the previous northern treeline.
– NASA summarized the same research as confirming a northward migration of the boreal forest.
– Canada’s own forestry agency reports that Canada’s total forest area has increased since 2000. They note that large fires and logging do not reduce long-term forest area as forests regenerate naturally.
Bonus: Fires are NECESSARY
Historically, boreal forests burn every 50 to 200 years. These fires are expected.
It just looks bad because 55% of them were started by humans instead of lightening this time.
There is nothing to blame on America.
It is established that 55% is Canadian carelessness and bad intention. Some percentage is Canadian mismangement, frequently to appease various groups who have no concept of the situation but certainly have an absolute ideological opinion. The rest is the natural way forests have evolved to become stronger over millions of years.
This is all on Canada. And they must compensate America for their inability to manage the situation.
Another solution would be for America to help Canada by talking over some of the governmental organizations that are failing… forestry, trade, legislative branch, executive branch.

Although it defies belief, I can, in fact, tell the difference between an Iranian and a cucumber.
Iranian have more body hair and are less green, although they both can be eaten raw if absolutely necessary.
Believe it or not, I have had a post-ville life for the last 20 years. Some of that involves further education to build a useful and in-demand skillset, international travel, and exposure to many people. This has given me insight, connections, and friendships.
But to credit your intuition, the vast majority of people I have known for the last 20 years are standing on the same streetcorner with no order-of-magnitude increase in skills or income… so I can see why it wouldn’t cross your mind that someone could be in a substantially better position in life.

I don’t drive anything newer than 10 years old. I won’t spend the money on anything newer until I have no other choice.
New cars are overengineered, complicated, and too concerned with safety and entertainment features leading to expensive sale prices and repairs and less reliability.
That’s without even bringing electric vehicles into the conversation.
If your answer to climate change is I have to buy an expensive EV, then I guess we can all fry together.
I live a low consumption lifestyle. I celebrate the concept of capitalism, but I prefer not to be the consumer driving markets.
I buy what I must to continue a basic existence, but I often look for quality and durability when it makes sense. I will pay up for it if it’s something I will use and holds value. I wear clothes until they transform into shop rags.
If people care about carbon production, they would need to incorporate many of these principles, but I don’t see many other people doing it, especially the people who say they care.
@johnnyboy, the future of new cars is pretty bleak when you see the increasing paid subscription services being offered to use features in the car you already paid for.

The war with Iran has cost the US some $37.5bn (£28bn) so far – an increase of nearly $8bn since the last estimate in May, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said.
He said he was seeking $87bn in congressional funding for his department, with $67bn of that destined for operations in the Middle East.
So the US has burned through 3% of its defense budget over the past three months, assuming the above number is correct.
With the additional funding that will be 10% of the US defense budget.
Considering there is no end in sight, no doubt this will put a strain on the US defense budget, equipment, and munitions stockpile.
This means China will smell weakness and make its move on Taiwan sometime next year, as planned.

Since they are receiving money from China, it is in their interest that this war goes on and puts a burden on US defense capabilities so that the US would not be able to respond to Chinese aggression.

I don’t know what the case is in Canada.
I suspect it’s a combination of things but there are parts of the US where we try to prevent and extinguish fire where it naturally would occur and what should be grasslands turn into forests.
As Chickenhead pointed out more people are living in these areas than before which places more attention on losses.
There are places where forests should be actively managed to clear dead trees and brush but aren’t because the eco extremists fear chainsaws the same as scary black rifles. It’s easier to contain fire if there is adequate spacing maintained between healthy trees.
There is also an overlap with places that don’t allow active forest management and places that subsidize homelessness and put an emphasis on “criminal justice reform” or simply don’t lock up the people who need to be in jail or an asylum.
Those folks don’t care about having fire outdoors during dry spells and high wind events. A subset of them start fires on purpose.
I don’t think it’s been proven as of yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the fires are being started by eco nuts trying to bring attention to climate issues. “If you don’t listen to our complaints, we can guarantee the worst fire season in history.”
Like many other things in this day and age, we can’t come up with a solution if we can’t come to a consensus on what the problem is.

The US and Canada have a joint agreement for wildland and fire mitigation cooperation. We share firefighting resources and people with them, and they share with us.
I lived in Colorado for seven years and fire is a big problem out there. Before we moved many properties around us were getting uninsurable due to this risk. Interestingly, somewhere around 8400 feet up the oxygen level is such that fires are less likely to occur (that does’t mean it is incapable of burning, just mitigated a bit…once a fire burns hot and the wind picks it up to a certain speed nothing much stands in its way). Another interesting fact, since aspens are largely one organism growing underground they are protective in such environments so it helps to chop down the conifer pines and let the aspens take over more. That’s about all I know about fire mitigation….other than don’t start any fires when it is dry, which is a good portion of the time in Colorado if there’s not a good bit of snow on the ground.
At the moment DC is covered in smog from the northern fires (I’m told by people living in the purgatory that is DC).
Climate change:
Whenever somebody yaps about climate change, you can discount anything else they say. It shows they are irrationally ideological and disconnected from reality.
Climate change is not a problem to solve (especially by jealously destroying civilization and the lifestyle of those who succeed in it). It is a situation to manage. And it can be managed to mankind’s benefit… especially if the stinkin hippies are beat into submission so the engineers can get to work.
Keep in mind, the slight increase in CO2 has “greened” the earth, increasing the coverage of plants. Combined with a reduction of farming in many parts of America and Europe, forests have returned from previously cleared farmland. The Chinese are massively planting trees. Korea had almost no trees 70 years ago.
Let’s look at the boreal forests.

Historically, boreal forests burn every 50 to 200 years. These fires are expected.
It just looks bad because 55% of them were started by humans instead of lightening this time.
There is nothing to blame on America.
