I don’t think Kim is concerned at all about being next. If anything he is pointing out to everyone that he was correct to advance their nuclear and missile programs. Additionally he still has a positive relationship with Trump which is important:

I think the Herald article fundamentally misunderstands how Maduro and Khamanei were perceived as threats.
That is, they were, through drugs or terrorism, killing Americans. Kim has not done that (though his father and grandfather did).
Kim is really only an irritant to neocons. He wants attention periodically; but he’s no idiot. He provides South Korean, Japanese, and American politicians with a relatively innocuous target; but he is not dangerous as long as everyone plays the game.
Meanwhile, Winnie the Xi has been making noises about Venezuela, Iran and Taiwan, so Kim is rightly not making any serious threats.
