The Yoon’s Become the First Presidential Couple Ever Jailed Simultaneously

Cho Kuk and his family must have been cheering when they heard this news:

Former first lady Kim Keon Hee has been arrested on charges of involvement in a stock manipulation scheme, election meddling and bribery, making her and her husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, the first former presidential couple to be detained simultaneously.

The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant against her late Tuesday, citing concerns she could destroy evidence, after special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team requested it last week on charges of violating the Capital Market Act, the Political Funds Act and a law on the acceptance of bribes for mediation.

During Tuesday’s hearing prior to her arrest, special prosecutors emphasized the risks of her destroying evidence, while her lawyers argued he had cooperated with questioning and was in poor health.

What kind of Mickey Mouse outfit is South Korea trying to call itself? I am no supporter of Yoon or his wife; but this fiasco make the whole country look very “special”. As in Short Bus special.

What strange, unknown, extralegal, and unconstitutional power does an unelected “first lady” in Korea have to perform “stock manipulation”, “election meddling”, and “bribery”?

Those are really a powerful own goals… because she has no such powers…

  1. What kind of Dollar Store Stock Market does South Korea have that allows the President’s wife (or any other person) to alter stock prices? Sounds like the real crooks are in the Financial Industry if they take their fiduciary responsibilities so lightly.
  2. How corrupt are the election officials that ANY one person or even a group with no official position(s) is allowed to affect voting results? Those people need to be fired, indicted, and replaced by competent and honest people.
  3. Who did she bribe? Because, unless the rest of the government are hopelessly corrupt felons, accepting the gift of an expensive purse doesn’t seem likely to alter the behavior — she herself had no power to make or enforce any laws.

Granted, she was not exactly a super model; but she’s not been charged with being frumpy.
