Like the USA, Belgium had just recently come out of WW2. Unlike tbe USA, Belgium was essentially raped by the Nazis and there were many fierce battles fought in their borders.

The fact that they — like so many free nations — sent troops is an indication of how much they valued the freedom of all people, even those halfway around the world.
