Reenactment of ship carrying Korean delegation to Japan
Reenactment of ship carrying Korean delegation to Japan
A replica ship of Joseon Tongsinsa, a diplomatic delegation sent by the 1392-1910 Joseon Dynasty of Korea to Japan, docks at Izhara port in Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture in southwestern Japan on Aug. 2, 2023, in a reenactment of the delegation’s trip to the neighboring country after departing a port in South Korea’s southeastern city of Busan the previous day, in this photo released by the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage. The dispatch of the Korean envoys began in 1607 for political reasons to promote peace after a destructive seven-year war between the two sides, but its functions were later transformed into something more cultural. A total of 12 such teams of envoys were dispatched until 1811. (Yonhap)
