U.S. Soldier Facing Disciplinary Action Defects Across DMZ to North Korea

Did not expect to ever see another Charles Robert Jenkins wannabe, but it has happened:

An American soldier facing military disciplinary actions fled across the heavily armed border from South Korea into North Korea, U.S. officials said Tuesday, becoming the first American detained in the North in nearly five years.

Two U.S. officials said the soldier detained was Pvt. 2nd Class Travis King, who had just been released from a South Korean prison where he’d been held on assault charges and was facing additional military disciplinary actions in the United States.

King, who’s in his early 20s, was escorted to the airport to be returned to Fort Bliss, Texas, but instead of getting on the plane he left and joined a tour of the Korean border village of Panmunjom, where he ran across the border.

At a Pentagon press conference Tuesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin did not name King, but confirmed that a U.S. service member was likely now in North Korean custody.

Stars & Stripes

You can read more at the link, but I wonder if Pvt. King is already regretting his decision? Did he not do a simple Google search to see what North Koreans due to American detainees such as Otto Warmbier who retuned home beaten and brain dead? What a headache for whoever his commander is.

I’m thinking he ends up more like Joseph White, drowned in a river, than Charles Jenkins; allowed wife and family, eventually released, not held fully accountable under UCMJ and allowed to live out his days in his wife’s hometown in Japan.

Setnaffa,

You shouldn’t be throwing stones considering that you have sold out your soul to the Russians and of course the Chinese.

Korea Person,

Nobody here but you has sold their souk to the Chinese.

Setnaffa has shown no indication of being pro-Russian.

In fact, the only one here who seems to be openly and shamelessly pro-Russian is me.

In case you are wondering why:

– I believe in dividing land based on culture and values (which is generally reflected by language) and feel the Russian speaking parts of Ukraine would be better off with Russia.

– I have watched Ukraine repress and attack the Russian speakers since at least 2014.

– I don’t see Russia as a current or near-future global or economic threat to my interests in any way.

…and the big one, even if I knew nothing of corrupt Ukraine shìtbaggery or NATOs treacherous eastward expansion or wealth transfers from taxpayers to the destroyers and rebuilders of Ukraine:

The exact same people telling me to Stand with Ukraine are telling me the vaccine is Safe & Effective, my lifestyle causes global warming, inflation is great for the country, straight white men have done nothing good ever, my children would be better off as trannies, I should be in a camp if my truthful speaking hurts someone’s feelings, men in women costumes are actually somehow real women and should compete in women’s sports, looters are no problem, homeless drug zones should be allowed in front of small business, and I will be happy to live in a pod and eat the bugs.

I assure you, they are full of shìt about all of this.

And they are full of shît about Ukraine.

Notice how the Setnaffarians react the strongest when I suggest that they are in reality Russianbots.

It is obvious that they are working for the Russians considering that they support Russia in the Russo-Ukraine War and called for Korea to import more coal from Russia, among others.

Civilian answer: No.
NCO’s answer: As per AR 600-20 titled Army Command Policy, table 1-1 within section 1-7 titled “Military Grade and Rank” lists the following information about the rank in question:
Grade: Private
Pay grade: E–2
Title of address: Private
Abbreviation: PV2

The table additionally lists the following:
The following acronyms have been introduced:
Private enlisted two (PV2)

I was in the Army twice, first in the early 90s and then in the 00s and during neither period was the term “Private Second Class” ever used formally or informally.
