IAEA Approves Japanese Plan to Release Filtered Water from Fukushima Nuclear Plant

The IAEA analysis supports the best of bad options on how to dispose of radioactive water at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant:

Rafael Mariano Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), speaks about the results of the IAEA's review of Japan's plan to release treated radioactive water stored at the Fukushima nuclear power station into the sea during a press conference in Tokyo on July 4, 2023. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Tuesday Japan’s plan to release treated radioactive water stored at the Fukushima nuclear power station into the sea is consistent with its safety standards.

After a two-year review, the U.N. nuclear watchdog also said that the discharges of the water treated by the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS), the plant’s custom purification system, would have a negligible radiological impact on people and the environment.

The results of the review are likely to add new momentum to Japan’s push to start discharging the water from the plant — damaged by a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011 – some time around this summer despite lingering opposition from neighboring countries, including South Korea and China.

Given how much radiation we face from our own cell phones and WiFi devices…

“Given how much radiation we face from our own cell phones and WiFi devices…”

Radiation is kind of a catch-all term which causes panic and confusion.

It can be divided into electromagnetic (cellphone RF to gamma rays) and particle (alpha, beta, etc.)

Or it can be divided into high-energy ionizing (eg. gamma rays) and low energy non-ionizing (eg. cellphone RF)

RF radiation from cellphones is quite different from neutron radiation next to your head.

As for ionizing radiation, another factor is the element that is radiating.

Some pass through you. Some replace elements in your body and stay there. For this reason, some radioactive elements are more dangerous than others.

Tritium is hydrogen and will make water molecules in your body… spreading around and emitting beta radiation… and turning into helium.

Not ideal… but much better than most other stuff.

I have constantly challenged the Setnaffarians to drink the water.

But since they have shown much reluctance to drink the Japanese treated and diluted water, no doubt that despite their rhetoric the Setnaffarians themselves don’t think this whole thing is safe.

Remember the name of this Argentinian’s ex-diplomat (not even a scientist). The corruption of international organizations like the UN, WTO, WHO, now IAEA (which by the way, is an organization promoting the nuclear industry). You wonder why Argentina is the way it is now. Too many bribes, and Japan is world-famous when it comes to “lobbying” foreign entities.

“I have constantly challenged the Setnaffarians to drink the water”

Absolutely! I will drink the water.

…and so will you.

…and everyone else.

Glad that got laid to rest.

Next issue, please.

Um, nobody should drink ocean water. It is salt water and not good for you.

“Um, nobody should drink ocean water. It is salt water and not good for you.”

I agree.

The tritium will form a bond with oxygen and create water. Some of this will evaporate and rain down into the lake that supplies water to the bottled water factories.

Also, I am still eating food contaminated with 1950s open-air nuclear testing.

(You could see the aftermath of the mushroom clouds from the Las Vegas strip)

The question I posed a while back is “Will you drink the Japanese treated water if it is diluted with fresh water?”

And from the answer you gave plus the answer given by the Setnaffarians no doubt that you are scared shitless of the water, but don’t want to admit it.

It was clearly stated I will drink the Japanese water when diluted with fresh water as the mathematics of the procedure suggest.

Just because you don’t get the answer you want doesn’t mean you can make up an answer and then attack the product of your imagination for some sort of rhetorical victory.

Bonus: grab your calculator, divide the amount of water the Japanese are going to release by the water in the global ocean, and tell me how many tritium atoms will be in my glass of water.

For the record, the Setnaffarian refused to answer my challenge but after being prodded and taking a line from the Korean PM’s statement has agreed to “drink” it.

Well let’s see if he really drinks it or if it is bluff on his part.

“Well let’s see if he really drinks it or if it is bluff on his part.”

I really will.

Once it is released into the environment, I will have no choice.

…and neither will you.

I am starting to think this conversation might be a bit too sciencey for you.

I am starting to think this conversation might be a bit too sciencey for you.

The Setnaffarian mind cannot handle the loads of scientific information and procedures that have been put forward.

You have to remember that they spent their entire pandemic spreading fake news and misinformation about vaccines while ignoring science because of simple vaccine jealousy.

No doubt they want this conversation to end but don’t want to show that they have lost.

Well, you got me there.

– nobody who got the vaccine got covid (except about 80%).

– there were no side effect, including death, with a vaccine that was completely unnecessary, especially for the healthy and the young.

– there are no pathways for long-term side effects (except for about 5 major ones).

– there is no increased mortality that correlates with vaccine uptake (actually there is, and nobody knows why, but they know it is not the vaccine).

But if you love the vaccine so much, rush out and get you Safe & Effective booster so you can stay up to date on your protection.

But you won’t… because like most of the vax fanbois, they are having post-purchase regret and just starting to wonder what the purpose of it was if it didnt protect against covid.¹

You don’t even sound sincere when you bring up the vax. Put your heart into defending with facts it or let it go. You remain on the wrong side of history.

And the odds are, over the next 20 years, it will clearly be wronger.

¹expermentation and profit
