Korean Officials Support Plan to Release Contaminated Fukushima Water into the Ocean

It looks like the Korean officials that studied the plan to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean as the best of bad options:

Japan’s decision to release contaminated water from its crippled Fukushima plant was finalized years ago as the most realistic alternative, and there is no point in talking about other ways to dispose of the water now, an official said Monday.

Amid concerns about health hazards, critics have suggested alternative ways, other than releasing the wastewater into the ocean, such as solidifying the water within concrete or storing the water in massive tanks.

“That part is something that was discussed for more than four years in the mid-2010s,” Park Ku-yeon, the first deputy chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, said of other methods during a daily briefing on the Fukushima release plan.

“At the time, there were extremely complex discussions within Japan, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was in the final decision,” Park said. “The current method of releasing it into the ocean was finalized as the most realistic alternative when scientific precedents and safety were comprehensively taken into account.”

Suggesting the IAEA reverse the decision would contradict the principles of faith and trust, Park said.

I don’t know how Japan reached the conclusion to release this contaminated water into the larger ecosystem, but it seems to me that, if the Japanese government thinks it’s safe enough to do that, maybe Japan should just release the water within its own borders, for its own citizens to consume. Think of it as a kind of collective self-punishment.

13 April 2021 article from Science.org:

“Releasing the treated water into the sea is a realistic solution,” Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said at a Cabinet meeting endorsing the plan. “We will do our utmost to keep the water far above safety standards.”

Well, there you have it: far above safety standards. So why not release the water only within Japan? It wouldn’t even be a self-punishment!

At least Kevin Kim is being thoughtful and reasonable in putting forward obvious points.

The question of why Japan won’t dump the supposed safe water within its borders is a question put forward by much of Asia.

But Japan seems unable to answer that question.

Maybe they don’t have the scientific evidence to back up their claims?

Which is worrying to say the least.

On top of that, our right wing cheerleader GIKorea is cheering on the Japanese.

Maybe GIKorea should use the Japanese treated water to water his front and backyards, if he thinks it is so safe.

Korea Person, consider the size of a waterway in Japan and the Pacific Ocean.

Dilution is the Solution to Polution… and Japan’s waterways just aren’t big enough.

As Paracelsus observed 500 years ago, “Dosis sola facit venenum.”

This is Latin for “Your mama has a bald monkeypùssy.”

But back to the point, it is frequently the amount that makes the poison.

When the amount is diluted below background, it has no effect. That can be done in the Pacific Ocean.

Maybe the Setnaffarians should drink the Japanese treated water. 😀

“Maybe the Setnaffarians should drink the Japanese treated water”

I’m currently drinking water from 17 years of open-air nuclear testing.

Fortunately it is diluted.

We will all be drinking Japanese treated water soon… including you.

And there is nothing you can do about it.

Look at a map, find Fukushima, and scream at the sky in that direction.

It is very clear that Chicken Head is avoiding my challenge to drink the Japanese treated water after it comes out diluted from the treatment plant.

As he did with the vaccines.

He calls them “Safe and Effective” but is unwilling to try it himself.

Obviously the hypocrisy that is a hallmark characteristic of setnaffa.

Of course Chicken Head is setnaffa’s sockpuppet so no surprises there.

Explain your point.

What is the purpose of drinking the Japanese treated water after it comes out diluted from the treatment plant?

It seems everyone agrees that is dangerous.

The magic is in the dilution.

Keep in mind, I am not advocating the dumping of radioactive substances into the environment.

But after looking closely at this situation, this course of action has the least potential for harm.

It is even better than storing it, as any leak or other accident will not be managed in a controlled situation.

Narrarator: And the radioactive water will still end up in the sea.

According to Japanese plans, the contaminated water will be treated with ALPS and then diluted with seawater to 1,500Bq/L which is 40 times less than standard levels.

So let’s assume the treated water is diluted with fresh water to the above level.

Will the Setnaffarians, Flying Sword, and GI Korea drink that water?

From what Chicken Head is saying, obviously they won’t put the money where their mouth is and not drink the water.

Not surprising considering they are hypocrites.

I can’t say for sure about the water but if they dilute your mom with a weight loss program, I might take a drink of that…

…but only from behind.

So, it seems that the Setnaffarians have nothing intelligent to add to this issue.

On top of that despite their claims that the treated and diluted water is safe, it is obvious that they do not believe their rhetoric considering that they refuse to drink the water in question.

Obviously the Setnaffarians have lost this one.

Your mom said what?

Oh… wait… she said as long as the level of radioactive materials is below the background level, you are actually REDUCING the amount of radiation by diluting it with a less radioactive substance.

She also said math was hard.

And she expressed regret she drank so much while she was pregnant.
