Korean Police Investigation Chief Resigns Because Son Caught Being A High School Bully

Korea has to be one of the few places to where the son being a bully costs the father his job:

A prosecutor-turned-lawyer appointed to head the National Office of Investigation offered to resign Saturday, just a day ahead of assuming his post, amid a bullying controversy involving his son at school.

Chung Sun-sin, appointed as the new chief the previous day, found himself in hot water after it was belatedly revealed that his son had verbally abused one of his peers for eight months in high school and was ordered to transfer schools.

“Many have been concerned due to my son’s problem, and I came to the conclusion that I cannot take on such a grave responsibility as the chief of the National Office of Investigation with this flaw,” he said in a release.

“I ask for forgiveness from the victim and his parents once again for what my son did,” he added.

Chung Sun-sin has shown himself to be a truly honorable man. I hope he is able to correct his son’s behavior.

Chung Sun-sin has shown himself to be a truly honorable man

I wonder how someone can be called “honorable” if he left out a undeniable fact during an official questionnaire.

From the Korea Times

Reportedly, Chung was asked about any litigations or suits that involve himself, spouse or lineal ascendants during a preliminary written interview, but he did not give an answer.

which involved

The reports detailed how his son had been transferred to another school in 2018 for bullying a classmate and how Chung filed an unsuccessful lawsuit against the school, claiming that the transfer was unjust.

Usually Korean schools try to settle bullying incidents quietly. They call both parents involved and tell them to settle it, which usually ends with the bulllying kid apologizing and his/her parent paying for any material damages that may have occured during the incident.

If it came to a point that the school ordered the son to transfer to another school means that it was a serious case, and that is considering that Korean schools do their best to not piss off rich and powerful parents.

So we have a guy who didn’t answer a question when asked about something that involved the above and who won’t take responsibility for his kid’s actions.

Not exactly a “honorable” person.
