Korean Police Clash with Balloon Activists Near the DMZ

The Yoon administration has decided to crackdown on Park Sang-hak and his Fighters for a Free North Korea:

South Korean activists say they clashed with police while launching balloons carrying anti-Pyongyang propaganda materials across the North Korean border, ignoring their government’s plea to stop such activities since the North has threatened to respond with “deadly” retaliation.

Park Sang-hak, a North Korean defector-turned-activist, said he his group had launched about eight balloons from an area in the South Korean border town of Paju Saturday night when police officers arrived at the scene and prevented them from sending their 12 remaining balloons. Park said police confiscated some of their materials and detained him and three other members of his group over mild scuffles with officers before releasing them after questioning.

Officials at the Paju police and the northern Gyeonggi provincial police agencies didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Sunday.

The balloons flown toward North Korea carried masks, Tylenol and Vitamin C tablets along with propaganda materials, including booklets praising South Korea’s economic wealth and democratic society and hundreds of USB sticks containing videos of U.S. Congress members denouncing the North’s human rights record, Park said.

They would have better spent the money helping Nork refugees in the RoK learn to assimilate into South Korean society than trying to score twitter points sending political messages.

Sad misuse of time and money.

I thought you would be happy that people are taking a stand against the North Korean regime that you so hate so much.

But alas, you cannot be seen to criticize Yoon because he provides all the joint ROK-US military exercises you desire.

So as per your hypocritical style you throw those standing up against North Korea under the bus, because of course your personal satisfaction is much more important.

See, here’s where your shallow philosophy breaks down.

I don’t give a rat’s arse what government the tribal chieftains in the Norkistani hill country choose.

I do care about the refugees not being treated as prizes in a pissing contest.

They’re human beings who risked their lives to escape from hell — and while South Koreans don’t owe them much, they owe them the respect due any Korean. Or a plane ticket to a nation that does respect Koreans…

Right now, they are mostly not made to feel welcome. Like halfbreeds.

Regardless of their legal status and government support, normal RoK citizens need to get off their tail feathers and start acting like they have families.

Daehan minguk, right? Filial piety, right? 4,500 years of culture, right?

Start acting like it.

What was it again?

The thing that setnaffa always used to say.

Ah yes.

Project, deflect, and change the subject.

And oh yes defame.

When confronted, our setnaffa now defames Koreans. This from a person who claims has Korean in-laws and loves Korea and Koreans. Or at least Koreans who follow his right-wing idealogy.
