Yeah, too many casualties on both sides; but China loses as their Soviet-quality weapons programs are laid bare and angry Chinese in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, and elsewhere get fed up with being mistreated and force Beijing to back down or overreact, prompting ever more protests and rebellions—possibly aided by other Asian countries—leading to the September or October equivalent of a Romanian Christmas.
We’ll see. I’m not thinking any of it will be fun, amusing, or healthy for anyone’s economy.

There are two islands near the Chinese mainland that are controlled by Taiwan.
The 1960 presidential debate between Kenedy and Nixon discussed the defense of these.
Watching Chinese troops movements, I suspect China will retaliate by taking these islands.
But that is just a guess.
While the invasion of Ukraine was clear for 5 months, and China doing something has been clear for 6 months, when and what are not clear.
But they will do something the west will deem unpleasant.

Biden made the same play over Ukraine, send a weak, meaningless emissary (for Ukraine it was VP Heels up Harris) to provoke a response and then be able to launder billions labeled as “war” funding.
