President-Elect Yoon’s Health Minister Nominee Faces Criticism Over Kids College Admission and Draft Exemption

The facts of his kids getting into the same college he was the President of seems less concerning to me than the draft exemption his son received:

Health Minister nominee Chung Ho-young arrives at an office set up for the nominee in Seoul on April 18, 2022. (Yonhap)

The office of President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol said Monday that whether the health minister nominee is fit for office should be determined after his confirmation hearing, despite calls for withdrawing the nomination over suspicions he used his position to get his children into a medical school.

The nomination of Chung Ho-young, a former chief of Kyungpook National University Hospital, has become the hottest political issue after allegations surfaced that he used his position to help his daughter and son gain admission to the university’s medical school and exempt his son from active duty military service.

You can read more at the link, but the facts around his kids admission seem flimsy to me. However, his son claiming a back injury is preventing him from doing his mandatory active military service I find questionable. The medical exam for the exemption was done at his father’s university hospital:

On Oct. 27, 2015, Chung’s son visited Kyungpook National University Hospital again. The medical certificate issued for military examination stated on Oct. 29, 2015 that “Patient is waiting follow-up after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in the 5th to 6th lumbar vertebrae.” On Nov. 6, Chung’s son was diagnosed with a “spine disease” during a second physical examination at Daegu Gyeongbuk Regional Military Manpower Administrationand deemed a Level 4 draftee, eligible for a desk job instead of active-duty service.

Chung’s son completed his military service by working at a desk job instead of active-duty service.  It was also notable that Chung’s son only spent about 150,000 won for medical expenses over the past five years, according to press accounts, suggesting a good level of health.

Joong Ang Ilbo

If his back is so bad that he can’t do active military service than he should have a long medical record of physical therapy, acupuncture, and follow up medical examinations. If the 150,000 won figure is true then all this follow treatment was likely not done which shows his back must not hurt all that bad.

GIKorea is making an effort to show that he is impartial.

However, notice how GIKorea does not call for Yoon to spare no effort to investigate his friend, the Health Minister nominee.

So for GIKorea, it is ok for a leftist like Cho Kuk and his family to be dragged through the mud while members of the Korean right should not be punished for their corruption.

KP, It took months for the true magnitude of Cho Kuk’s issues to be exposed and everyone waited pretty patiently. There were accusations, then the CK coverup attempts, rallies and a full media blitz.

The left framed every accusation against Cho Kuk as only political which it wasn’t. His daughter was added to research papers she never contributed to, was granted scholarships for semesters she failed; his wife destroyed evidence in a comical outfit; he worked insider trading with his wife and defrauded a school blaming his dead father. And yet there was no jail time for Cho Kuk, even his daughter’s degree revocation is being legally challenged for a school that just pushed her along to graduation. ***Emergency Alert; check your Doctor’s name in the future! Not you KP; you should seek exclusive CK Dumb daughter’s medical advice for every issue.

So do a full investigation and if necessary bring the charges. However pulling prosecutorial investigation authorities right now is looking really dumb no? Or do you only ever back one side, yes?

The Slav Drago is not as smart as he sounds

It took months for the true magnitude of Cho Kuk’s issues to be exposed

Of course. because Cho Kuk and his family was vigorously investigated by the current Pres-elect who did not want him to take the post of Justice Minister and launch reforms that can dilute the power of the prosecutors.

And yet there was no jail time for Cho Kuk

His wife got jail time, or did you conveniently forget that fact.

So do a full investigation and if necessary bring the charges.

Do you see the current Pres-elect calling for an investigation?

However pulling prosecutorial investigation authorities right now is looking really dumb no?

Tell me. Does US prosecutors have investigative powers and/or carry out investigations?

Obviously they don’t.

Investigations in the US are done by law enforcement agencies.

In Korea, giving the prosecutors the power to investigate and prosecute and the power to pick and choose cases have led to abuses of power and conflict of interest.

The current legislation aims to correct that.

If you are a sensible person who believes in democracy and checks and balances you would see that.

But of course you believe in Setnaffarism™ as such you would be following Article 5

It does not matter whether the Korean right are inept and corrupt, as long as they support keeping the USFK in Korea, forever.

Give them your full support and look the other way when allegations of incompetence and corruption come against them.

However, when it comes to leftists do your utmost to criticize and discredit them, since they do not support keeping the USFK in Korea forever.

KP: “And yet there was no jail time for Cho Kuk”.

Is he in jail?

Spoiler alert; he is not in jail. KP put on a sad face please.

Did I miss his wife in a “Who Shot Roger Rabbit” costume enter her own office on camera and remove evidence of her crimes hence her jail time. No, I did not miss. KP missed but;

No one could miss that. Not even the ruling party. So she is in jail. She is a criminal who committed verified crimes on video so justice was done to the Justice Minister’s corrupt wife.

Next Spoiler alert: President Elects, are wait for it, “President Elects” and cannot call for much of anything other than the formation of their cabinet but not so much right now. If the ruling party wants an “investigation” then they can do it.

Yoon cannot until he is actually in office; So what is your point? Do you want him to demand the investigation of every alleged illegality over the past 5 years? That would take at least the full 5 years of his future presidency so he will have to pick and choose. At some point he will need to eat and drink; he isn’t North Korean.

I’m pretty sure you don’t understand the Korean legal system. Allegations are only allegations until investigated and proven in South Korea and investigations are initiated by responsible officials in position not those who will take those positions. Yet you frequently tell everyone that the Korean system is not the one in the US so why are you comparing them?

It doesn’t seem like you spend much time in your purported country or at least not the half you claim to. Amirate Comrade?

The Slav Drago is not so smart and does not see the big picture.

But of course as a member of the Church of Setnaffarism™ that is to be expected.

If he was so smart and not a member of the Church of Setnaffarism™ then he would have realized that Pres-elect Yoon does not need presidential powers to have the Health Minister nominee investigated.

A simple submission of papers and investigation request to the police or the prosecutors would have started the investigation process.

You see when the Pres-elect was the Grand Prosecutor, it was up to him to ensure that the prosecutors under him would vigorously investigate the cases that come to their desks.

He did that with Cho Kuk, but that was after he was named Justice Minister with the mission to reform the Prosecutor’s office.

If one wants to block reforms then what better way to bring down the Justice Minister than to drag his family through the mud, and it worked.

As for cases involving his friends and family. seemingly not so vigorous an investigation.

If he wants to show that prosecutors work for the good of Korea and that he is impartial then he should at least ask the police or his fellow prosecutors to investigate the Health Minister nominee.(Even if the law passes there is a three month grace period, but I think Drago will conveniently ignore this)

If he won’t do that then it shows that he is covering up for his old friend, the Health Minister nominee.

And by supporting such corruption by the Korean right and looking the other way while taking on the leftists, Drago and the others from the Church of Setnaffarism™ are blindly following Article 5 of Setnaffarism™.

And all this for KUKF™(Keep USFK in Korea Forever).
