Traditional dance performanceVisitors to the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, watch a traditional dance performance on Feb. 2, 2022, the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday. (Yonhap)
I remember the first time I went to Korea (on a business trip). They put me up in the Shilla Hotel. What a joy! On that and subsequent trips through the ’90s, I was closer to Korean Presidents, Foreign Royalty, and even former US President Richard Nixon than my home office is to my kitchen.
The video the hotel had when you turned on the TV had a variation on that dance. It just added more joy. I obtained a copy and played it at a team meeting when I had to review my trip back in Texas.
So yeah, I may have a much different view of folks whose first stay was in a tent on the Z… Or sneaking across the border… I have stayed at lesser hotels in Korea; but it’s the people, not the buildings, that make South Korea a great place.
