Record Setting Korean Mountaineer Goes Missing in the Karakoram Range
Hopefully this mountaineer can be found, but considering the altitude he got lost at and the extreme terrain, it seems any rescue is going to be difficult:

South Korea has asked China and Pakistan for help in the search for a Korean mountaineer missing in the Himalayas, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday.
Kim Hong-bin, a mountaineer also known for having lost his fingers to frostbite, went missing on Monday while on his way back down from the summit of the 8,047-meter high Broad Peak, located in Pakistan’s Karakoram Range.
He broke the record of climbing all of the world’s 14 highest peaks in the Himalayas as a person with a disability.
“We contacted the authorities in Pakistan and China as soon as we learned he went missing and requested a dispatch of rescue teams, including a helicopter,” ministry spokesperson Choi Young-sam said in a press briefing.

Nah, 0 public resources should be expended to find this guy. The age of land-based exploration on Earth ended a long time ago. There’s no reason for these people to go walking around desolate mountain tops, there’s no gain to society, nothing. Just them feeding their egos. Any reason they can give to do it can easily be countered with a similar leisure activity that would satisfy the need without putting anyone at risk or wasting resources so leave him there as a warning to future selfish a-holes who want to do this.
He won’t be high-fiving you for that attitude.
I hope the guy was a believer; but I would counsel all mountain climbers with artificial limbs and/or missing fingers to only travel in large groups and carry sufficient safety gear (beacons, flares, smoke, etc.) to be found quickly…
Otherwise, people will just think you’re suicidal.
Poor guy. Probably doesn’t have a single digit chance of survival.
I’m giving him a single digit.
If only he could have thumbed his nose at death.
