Experts Claim North Korea May Be Willing to Give Up Their Nuclear Weapons

In my humble opinion anyone that believes that North Korea is willing to give up their nukes is not an expert on North Korea:

The captured image shows U.S. experts taking part in a webinar hosted by the Washington Times Foundation on May 4, 2021. They are (from top L, clockwise) Christopher Hill, former U.S. ambassador to South Korea, Joseph DeTrani, former special U.S. envoy to the six-nation denuclearization talks with North Korea, Guy Taylor, Washington Times journalist, and Alexandre Mansourov, professor of security studies at Georgetown University.

North Korea may still be willing to give up its nuclear weapons for the right price, but will likely wait to see how serious and committed the new U.S. administration is to diplomacy, U.S. experts said Tuesday.

“I do believe North Korea is committed to complete, verifiable denuclearization, assuming they get the security assurances they want and certainly they need because they’re concerned about regime change, and they realize nuclear weapons, indeed, are a deterrent,” Joseph DeTrani said in a webinar hosted by the Washington Times Foundation.

DeTrani served more than two decades at the Central Intelligence Agency before working as a special U.S. envoy to the six-nation denuclearization negotiations with North Korea.

You can read more at the link, but the engagement crowd is out pushing their talking point that the North Koreans would give up their nuclear weapons for the right security guarantees. The Kim regime has one goal and that is to sustain their rule. What better security guarantee could they have than possessing nuclear weapons? They saw what happened to Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi when they were prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons; they are not going to make the same mistake.

The best that can be hoped for is to limit the number of weapons they have and try to stop their ICBM development program to threaten the U.S. homeland. In conjunction with this, the U.S. and its allies should be working to thwart North Korean proliferation of these technologies to other rogue nations which we have seen them do before with Syria and Iran. This is a more realistic goal instead of pursuing the fiction that North Korea is willing to denuclearize.

The key wording in this whole thing is “for the right price” meaning that NK might be willing to give up nukes if ALL of the UN sanctions were lifted, the US unfroze NK assets, the US withdraws all of its troops from South Korea and Japan, and if the US supports NK’s full membership to the UN. This is what “the right price” means to NK.

That last sentence is probably a good part of why NK is clutching at their nuclear capability with China starting its expansionism, NK would make an excellent new province for China. Also, China has the manpower to throw at the NK even if Fatty used his nukes.

So what? Let the North Koreans keep their nuclear weapons, why should South Korea care?

Korean Man,

I’m shocked! Are you not in close correspondence with your leftist comrades?

Anyways, the leftists do care about or at the least pretend to care about NK nukes because in order for them to realize their long time dream of improved relations and exchanges with the DPRK, they need the blessing of the US.

Specifically they need to get the US to agree to the lifting of sanctions, which I believe Moon promised to Kim during their one on one at Panmunjon, three years ago. And the only way they are going to get that is if and ,that’s a big if, the DPRK gets serious about nuclear disarmament.

Adding NK nuke threats to the NK conventional missiles and artillery adds little to the threat against SK, my little Tochak Waegoo friend. Nukes or conventional, getting destroyed by either one results in the same thing for South Korea, so no need to fret. Worry about your own sick in the head bosses who is obsessed with their propaganda Olympics during a worldwide pandemic while their people deal with a collapsed medical system due to gross mismanagement. Japanese government is now one of the most corrupt governments in Asia, right along with China.

Ah, yes. When confronted with the fact that he/she has been proven wrong and inconsistencies revealed, Korean Man will pull out the Japan card, which happens to be the typical leftist MO.

While we are on the subject of “obsession of propaganda Olympics” which has been brought up by Korean Man, Korea and China has also delved into such practices.

Chun Doo Hwan pushed for the 88 Olympics and used it to take people’s minds off his regime while advancing the narrative that Korea is now ready to take its place among the ranks of First World countries.

The leftists are pushing for a future joint hosting of the Olympics by South and North Korea to show the world that inter-Korean cooperation is alive and well. Although it remains to be seen whether or not the North will go along with this.

The CCP used the 2008 Beijing Olympics to showcase the leaps and advancement the PRC has made over the years.

So from the looks of it Korean Man is shooting himself in the foot by criticizing the practices of his leftist comrades and/or his Beijing masters.
