I am not 100% clear on what is meant by the 24ID “reflagged” to 1 CAV and then 2ID. Were the same soldiers just given new patches for their uniforms? Was there a rotation of regiments or were they “reflagged” as well? The following web page details what the new org looked like; but not what happened to the men.

My youngest uncle missed out on the “fun” by being on the German DMZ at the time… I’m certain the winters were just as cold in the Fulda Gap as they were near Paju and the Korean DMZ.
