Senator Graham Believes China Behind North Korean Denuclearization Rebuke

North Korea likely had no plans of giving up their nukes, but were willing to pretend for a while to string the US along.  However, the sharp rebuke they gave this weekend to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit may be linked to the China trade issue:

Senator Lindsey Graham

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) suggested on Sunday that China may have pressured North Korea to take a harder line against U.S. negotiators during a recent visit to the isolated country by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“I see China’s hands all over this,” Graham told “Fox News Sunday,” citing an ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China as Beijing’s possible motivation. “We’re in a fight with China.”

Graham’s comments came a day after the North Korean foreign ministry released a lengthy statement, condemning U.S. negotiators’ “gangster-like demand for denuclearization.” [The Hill]

You can read more at the link, but if China continues to violate sanctions to support the Kim regime I wonder if at some point the Trump administration will consider sanctions on China as well.

It will be pretty hard to impose sanctions against China when :

they already have such a massive global economy
they own much of the USA’s debit
and many of our traditional allies may balk in supporting us since we are also antagonizing them with sanction-like trade charges

Joe C, Trump put tariffs on Canadian goods in response to existing Canadian tariffs on American goods. Are you ignorant of that or do you suggest we should just “cowboy up” and pay whatever our “allies” decide to tax out of us?

As tariffs are a type of tax, please keep in mind the Supreme Court case, McCulloch v. Maryland (https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/17/316/case.html).

In delivering the unanimous opinion, Chief Justice John Marshall said, “That the power of taxing it [the bank] by the States may be exercised so as to destroy it, is too obvious to be denied, and that the power to tax involves the power to destroy [is] not to be denied.”

Senator Graham is long overdue for retirement so even if what he says sounds like logic it is obvious that something that dribbled out of mouth wasn’t his lunch. Just read the headlines of the related stories, he’s senile, insane, or both. Still not sure? Ask him to get his grandkids to enlist in the Army or Air Force and request first assignment to South Korea. See what he says then.

Graham has no grandkids and has been egging Trump on.
But , of course, Trump is a wuss and will not order a pre-emptive strike on the DPRK.
