Seems like it was just a few years ago that Koreans would look at you funny when you said you didn’t need a bag because it was just a couple of small items and you were fine with just carrying them out without being bagged.

Probably the same all over SK but down at Humphreys, you can always tell where the Americans live off base just by seeing the black Hefty/Glad trash bags. Everyone is “supposed” to buy the Pyeongtaek labeled white trash bags (its 1250kw for 50L and 500kw for 20L bags), and separate the recyclable items. I think the garbage collection guys gave up trying to enforce it on the Americans a long time ago, lol.
I didn’t have to deal with too many Trash Nazis living where I did, but a friend of mine sure did! Little old lady seemed to hover around the trash site, ready to scold anyone (not just Foreigners) who failed to separate recyclables.
Recycling is teh serious business!
What you saying New Horizons training doesn’t cover the norms of living off-base? Surely there’s some other class available for people to learn how to go with the flow.. no? No time left after all the POSH, POSA, -American Appreciation, blah blah to the mother f’ing blah.
Those district trash bags are a relic from a long ago botched government “solution” to get Koreans recycling. USFK’s long been aware of that requirement:

While AAFES is still allowed to sell trash bags that end up in illegal piles on the streets this will always be a problem. While I see the district bags as a huge vote-getting conceived pile of crap it’s still the law and a very visible reminder of how USFK just doesn’t get it, or doesn’t care, whatever. :chuckle:
