Considering North Korea’s track record, you’d think that any business with a lick of sense would stay as far away from them as possible. It reminds me of Chris Hansen’s “To Catch A Predator” series. They know they’re going to get in trouble, but they just can’t seem to help themselves. The temptation is just too great. These investors see this closed-off country with a (literally) captive workforce, an untapped consumer pool and the promise of a government-guaranteed monopoly, and they begin salivating. I guess they either ignore North Korea’s diplomatic, economic and business histories, or they figure that this time things will be different. They lose sight of the fact that this is a country that has never seen fit to bring an official end to a war that they started 65 years ago. As long as the Kim regime is in power, they’re never going to change.

I don’t always build high tech systems in North Korea, but when I do, I add a back door that shuts the whole thing down the moment I don’t get paid.

…but they probably knew they would not get paid and are just making a show of it all… as the real profit is from some NSA black budget.
