CNN Profiles Korean-American Family That Lost Their Business
Via a reader tip comes this CNN report about a Korean family in Baltimore that lost their business due to the criminals that some in the media like to make excuses for by calling them protesters or rioters:
The day after rioting rocked parts of Baltimore, Matthew Chung stared in disbelief at a video clip circulating online, showing an older Korean woman sobbing as a man props her up to keep from collapsing.
According to the description, the woman was a shop owner who had just found out her store was destroyed by rioters.
That woman was his mother.
Confusion, anger and sadness gripped Chung as he started to realize that his parents’ wig and beauty store, which has been on Pratt Street for 30 years, was the target of looters on April 27. The protests that turned violent were in response to the death of Freddie Gray, an unarmed black man who suffered a spinal cord injury while in police custody.
Chung, 36, doesn’t usually visit Facebook — friends describe him as a private guy — but he felt compelled to write a passionate letter sharing his deep frustrations and sadness at seeing his parents’ livelihood destroyed.
“My parents came to this country with no money and worked hard to setup a little business that’s been in the same neighborhood in Baltimore City for over 25 years,” he wrote. “But just in one night everything they have worked for is now all gone.” [CNN]
You can read the rest at the link, but I always find it interesting how people who can even speak the language can come to this country, open a business, make a living, and be productive citizens while many American born here cannot.

The media has been generating fake confusion over the legality of the illegal knife… and now has clearly shown they no longer give a fukk by going all-out and saying he was unarmed… in keeping with the “unarmed black man” meme…
…though it appears many of them have been armed… knife, cop’s taser, 300 pounds of gentle giantude with big ol’ arms.
The white cop kicking the black guy in the face on video appears to be the exact thing Americans of all races should be protesting against… though the lack of reporting could indicate that kicking him in the face was exactly the correct response. Who knows?
The media and politicians cannot be trusted.

Of course GI KOREA didn’t include in the CNN article what I had expected from the beginning…that these Koreans were whining about losing “everything(LIARS)” and didn’t even have business insurance even though they’ve been in business for 30 years. Didn’t these Koreans learn anything in 30 years? What a bunch of EGGHEADS!!!
Those who donated $$$ on GOFUNDME got fooled, these Koreans ain’t going to open any business, they’re going to do whatever they want with that American donated money.

JUST LIKE I SAID FROM THE BEGINNING ON ANOTHER POSTING/THREAD, THE KOREANS ARE CRYING FOR NOT HAVING INSURANCE AFTER 30 YEARS. They don’t deserve anything, they came to America as beggars/leeches of the poor black man and will LIE to get American $$$ just before they NEVER open THE same business at a nearby location again but they’ll change names from Kim, Park, Choi, Lee, etc…to fool Uncle Sam and those at GOFUNDME.
The obligation for the government to protect society from civil unrest and protect property rights outweighs the non-existent obligation to purchase the manufactured construct of private insurance.
When government intentionally neglects that obligation, and even encourages the destruction of private property, it has abandoned one of the only legitimate reasons for its existence.
A quick solution is for government to resolve this through payment… but in today’s deficit spending, there is no pain that discourages future incorrect actions by the government.

Koreans are the best American citizens of all, especially compared to blacks. If they can’t afford insurance how are they any better than blacks?

The way the economy is (naturally) structured, it is hard to get ahead running your own business unless you happen to do something clever (that others can’t immediately copy) or you work amazingly hard.
There is a good chance this Korean family did not get rich doing this… but made an income comparable to anybody else who worked 60+ hours a week.
The need for insurance is based on probability… but the expense for insurance is guaranteed. Riot insurance is a good deal for the insurance companies but not so much for the business owners who already pay a lot in taxes (and secondary taxes) for a government which has traditionally not been very quick to “give those who wished to destroy space to do that.”
Of course agents of the state are under no obligation to protect you or your property (although they can take away your right to protect yourself or your property)… so the mayor’s statement likely does not open the city up to any liability.
This leaves the burden on the productive business owner… the one who pays taxes instead of taking them. He is the demographic a wise city would do everything to protect. Unfortunately, in places like Baltimore, the non-productive are starting to outvote the productive… and their desires are proportionately represented.
This is a snowball rolling toward failure.
I asked Tbone the purpose of government. Everybody should be able to answer this question. There may be no right answer… but if someone cannot give a basic idea off the top of their head that fits within the general framework of their beliefs, it means they have spent far too much time in front of the fukking TV or jerking off to internet pr0n to have a meaningful opinion in any political discussion.
I wonder if Tbone will think about this, look on the internet for thoughts on the issue, and form a meaningful opinion based on his other beliefs that will make him a wiser person… or not.
I wonder if anybody will do this.

I had the opportunity to read it and wrote a rather shallow paper on it back in my college daze. I have reread it since and done more thinking.
It’s sad that most Americans wouldn’t recognize the author’s name, even though they would likely agree with most of what he wrote.

I don’t recall anyone laughing when black owned businesses in Ferguson were burnt to the ground. It’s a terrible thing when people think they are accomplishing anything by destroying the businesses in their own community.
I take issue with the assumption that any person who isn’t black and runs a business in a black community is taking advantage of that community. Without visiting each and every one of those stores, how could anyone possibly know if the owners were taking advantage of the community or not? Isn’t it possible they are providing a service for a fair fee? Even if the prices are too high, that doesn’t give anyone carte blanche to steal from them or burn down their store.
We had this discussion before about the Ferguson store owner. I don’t expect anything productive to come of it or any honest, reasonable comments from Tbone on the matter.
The purpose of government isn’t to prevent bad luck in life. What happened to these owners goes beyond bad luck. For officials to take a hands off approach when some in the community are violating the rights of the store owners is a failure of government on the most basic, fundamental, level.
