This needed to happen. Regardless of which president was going to do it, I can just about be certain it would have had to been one in the last 2 years of his second term.
What happened to the Closer(2 guys before him 34 with him) Clifford Sloan(?), the State Department guy whose job it was to arrange the transfer of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to wherever. Sadly, he’s leaving despite his success.

Besides, if he really went after stupid Democrats, there would be no time to go after stupid Republicans.
I think why I do not see this happening with North Korea is because Cuba has not been threatening the US for decades while North Korea continues to make threat and be a global bad actor. It would be political suicide to make nice with the North Koreans right now while with Cuba it is political suicide in South Florida, but for the most part not the rest of the country. With that said I do not see much changing in Cuba in the near term except more money coming into the Castro regime to help further entrench them into power. Hopefully down the road something will change which is what I think everyone is hoping for.
All North Korea has to do is stop claiming to be communist…
…and start claiming to be Democrats.
