Army Private Sentenced for Assaulting NCO
I hope this idiot learned his lesson:
Pvt. John S. McCombs of the Army¿s 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade was sentenced June 24 to reduction from E-2 to the Army¿s lowest pay grade, E-1, plus 150 days in jail. A five-member jury handed up the sentence in a court-martial that began June 23 at Camp Humphreys. Earlier, the jury found McCombs guilty of assaulting a noncommissioned officer and of drunk and disorderly conduct.
The Army tried McCombs under its rules for special courts-martial before Lt. Col. Mark Sposato, a military judge. The events that led to the court-martial began the night of March 17 at a taxi stand outside Osan Air Base, prosecutors said.
There, McCombs and two companions looked to take a taxi to Suwon Air Base, their duty station. An Air Force master sergeant also stationed there asked if he could share the cab ride. Three of the servicemembers sat in back, the airman in the middle and McCombs on his left, according to the prosecution.
Enroute to Suwon, McCombs addressed the airman, who was in civilian clothes, with ¿the N word,¿ prosecutors said. Both McCombs and the airman are white. The airman identified himself as a senior NCO and told McCombs his use of the racial slur was inappropriate and not to use it again.
At that point, the prosecution said, McCombs attacked the NCO, punching him repeatedly in the head.
At least he didn’t assault the taxi driver. Anyway I’m all for sending these idiots to jail. The Camp Humphreys Confinement Facility is no country club, so five months there should hopefully send a message to other people who like to get drunk and disorderly to modify their conduct.

This was some b.s. this Private had a black child with a black women and has nothing but black friends. It was just a word we use like "dude". The master sgt that he hit should of kept his mouth shut. If it was me he wouldn't of made it back from the cab ride.
Using the N word has nothing to do with why he was sent to jail. He was sent to jail because he assaulted a senior non-commissioned officer. He should have just shut up when the NCO told him so and he would not be in jail.
You have a point the word is not why he went to jail. But you also got to understand He was assulted before he punched the Mastert Sergent Repeatedly in the head. The whole story was not used in the trial as a fair manner for both people. So when the artical that was wrote on him saying he used a N word as a racist is not true. The Master Sergent freaked out when He said it as if he didn't like black people and thought of them as N#@$! and didn't want no part of being one. That why the Master Sergent assaulted "NOW" Sergent Mccombs.
I'd give a Medal to the Privates. NCO's are stupid jerks who think they are god, well, they AIN'T!!! I kicked an E-5 in the face in my NG unit as a E3 when the asshole pushed me, I would have killed him but a Lt. stopped me. I got NO punishment at all and the fool sgt. left me alone as did others.
Be glad you didn't do it in my unit Ronny. You would have been Praying to God when my little friends and I found you. Keep "talking" TROOP. 😈 I enjoy the entertainment. 😆
Sweet geebus… is there a full moon or something?
I don't think that there is any army in the world that can work if the troops can beat-up the NCOs. Which makes me wonder if you are really being truthful… Of course I would also not expect anyone to work for an mercenary organization that makes them sign papers promising not to sue if they are gang-raped but that really happened (KBR). I guess that some (though not all) Americans are just "special."
I thought there was some rule or reg against AF and Army hanging out together (such as sharing rides) – if not there should be. 😆
Training areas are pretty big places and even bigger on the weekends and they need protection. Those training areas need fighting positions dug all over the place in case of enemy attack. If the fighting positions are dug during the week, the enemy might know their locations so their dug on the weekend by privates who volunteer by raising their hands and accidently hitting someone. It is a collective effort by the units NCO's to supervise the privates on the weekend. Of course the 1SG gives the private the option, 45 and 45 or a weekend defending his nation?
If you think the racial slur had no impact on the private’s sentence, you are likely someone who would drink the kool-aid
😕 ❓ ❗ who r u people 😳 😉 😐 😡 😈 🙂 😯 🙁 🙄 😛
😮 😆 💡 😀 👿 😥 😎 ➡
WWA. Wiggas With Attitude? 😆
Hey G.I. Korea, what did you say about crime rate of G.I.s in Korea being lower than locals and all that? Maybe you are right but you can tell what kind of low grade people are in the military just by reading these replys. Also, it's funny how you compare G.I. crime rate with civilians in Korea.
Shouldn't you compare G.I. and ROK soldiers? Since they are both 'soldiers'? And why don't you put that stats up since that's the fair comparison?
The ROK Army does not release crime rates and the ROK Army does not allow their soldiers to be tried in civilian courts unlike the US military. In fact even a Korean civilian that commits a crime against a ROK soldier can stand trial in a military court:

I had a KATUSA assault me and when I brought it to my chain of command, they ignored it. I'm not re-enlisting! I can't trust NCO's to protect me from foreign NCO's so why should I trust them to protect me from and give me the proper mentoring in combat?!
Matt you must be a real woosy to have a KATUSA assault you…. 😆
If you can't handle your liquor then don't drink. If somebody f's up then you have to pay the consequences. Matt #14 I don't know how it is now but when I was in Korea in '79-'80 if a KATUSA f'd up all you had to do was to tell your platoon sgt and they would threaten to put the f up in the ROK Army-problem solved. I don't know how it is now but when I was in Korea the KATUSA's were a bunch of spoiled rich kids who bribed their way in the KATUSA program (they were supposed to be selected randomly). AD #15 I worked on an orthopedic ward at the 121 Evac Hospital when I was in Korea. The KATUSA's were more trouble than they were worth, I actually caught one asleep in the latrine. The wardmaster (NCOIC) finally decided that he didn't want them on the ward anymore even though we needed the bodies. If one of our KATUSA's had been stupid enough to assault one of us, well let me put it this way it wouldn't have happened again.
BLUF: Matt, you are a product of today's generation: "Everything is good, everything is fine, say nice things". Let someone assault you and you do not immediately retaliate 10 fold to handle the situation, nope you ask for some outside agency to intervene. I am glad your CoC did nothing and they will continue to do nothing. NOBODY IS GOING TO HELP YOU NOT THE US GOVT, NOT YOUR FRIENDS, NOT YOUR PET CAT FLUFFY.
Assaulting NCOs is wrong and should not be tolerated.
