Sad But I Understand
A Korean couple in Ohio is making news due to their deportation from the US due to breaking immigration laws:
A father in Toledo has faced the toughest decision of his life. News 11 has been following the Jung family, originally from South Korea, living in Toledo for the past 20 years.
Because of immigration problems, the mother Young Jung has been in jail since February. Her husband said they will go back to South Korea Thursday, but that has consequences.
Homeland security leaders said the Jungs broke immigration rules and have to go back, but they’re leaving their 15 year-old son Andrew, a U.S. citizen, here to finish high school. “It’s a scary feeling,” Andrew told News 11 as he’s going through an emotional rollercoaster. His mother has been in jail for the past 177 days, ever since a Homeland Security immigration crackdown.
There’s been little hope of Young Jung getting out soon. “I had to make a decision on this,” said Andrew’s father Dae. Dae told us he couldn’t let his wife stay in jail, so he voluntarily bought plane tickets sending them back to South Korea Thursday afternoon. “I can have her next to me, that’s a good thing,” said Dae. “Bad thing is I have to leave my son Andrew behind.”
This is a sad story, but something that irks me is when people don’t follow US immigration laws. I personally have no problem with immigration into America for those looking for a better life, but do it legally. If this couple here would of followed the legal process they wouldn’t have the issues they have now. They also have the option of bringing their son back to South Korea with them as well if they don’t want to be separated.
I am also wondering if this family is any how linked to the Korean-American massage parlor/prostitution ring that was busted in Toledo recently? I think this may be more than just a coincidence.

I think it is pathetic that the US Government is going after a family which has become so deeply rooted here in the US.
Yes, the US is supposed to be a nation of laws, but there is the letter of the law and there is the spirit of the law.
I would much rather see the government focus their enforcement actions on recent arrivals– many of whom are basically hillbillies from Latin America, who will come to the states and rarely, if ever, assimilate– instead of going after a family with a twenty-year track record of living (and almost certainly assimilating) in this great land of ours.
For the record, I live in California, a state which allows illegal aliens to attend state college and university campuses and pay resident tuition, a privilege which is not even extended to American citizens who live in other states. I teach at a college where I see foreign students who have obeyed our laws paying six times as much for tuition as illegal aliens who broke our laws in order to enter the country.
Thank god the USA is finally starting to kick some of those koreans out. I have yet to meet a korean that does not hate the USA.
shibshab,
So what you are saying that 8 Korean Americans Military Servicemen who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan hated USA? (Three of them were not even US Citizen.) Becareful what you are saying about us Korean Amercians. Majority of Korean Americans love USA and that is the reason why they live in US in first place. And there are many in military, intelligence and Law Enforcement profession who is willing to give up their life to protect great country of ours. The United States of America!!!!!
GI,
Wow this comes close to home for me. I have a relative lives in Toledo. And they are not Jung family.
Its sad that they have to leave their son behind for him to finish High School. I wonder how they got into US illegally in first place. Usually over stay their studet visa.
It is my opion that they should bring their son with them to Korea. He can still continue to get an American style education at foreigner's school. He is US Citizen and he should be eligible to attend. Family should not be saparated volunteerly like this.
Kind a wonder, with all those "Yankee Go home" Protesters in Korea and I wonder how many would want to end that phrase with "But Take me With you."!
Boo hoo. What a tear-jerker. Perverts driving through Toledo will no longer be able to get a Korean special massage at Ms. Jung's spa.
Call me naive, but I don't think you sit in jail 6 months for merely immigration issues.
