More ROK Army Shooting Fallout
I heard some interesting information from a ROK Army source concerning last weekends shooting in Yoncheon. What I was told was that after the shootings the ROK Army moved the dead and wounded soldiers bodies to separate hospitals to prevent families members of the dead and wounded from bonding together after the incident and to also limit the media impact of the incident. Small groups of families crying on TV look better than all the families together grieving over their losses.
Plus five of the dead soldiers were the only sons of those parents. It is horrible to think that families lost their only sons due to something as pointless as this. Feel free to comment if anyone else out there has heard similar information.

ppssst.. you wanna know why so many Koreans want to get out of doing the "duty"? You wanna know why so many suicides and soldiers going berserk? This is why.

The reason must be attributed to their DNA of Hwa-byung.
Hwa-byung (also known as wool-hwa byung): A Korean folk syndrome literally translated into English as "anger syndrome" and attributed to the suppression of anger. The symptoms include insomnia, fatigue, panic, fear of impending death, dysphoric affect, indigestion, anorexia, dyspnea, palpitations, generalized aches and pains and a feeling of a mass in the epigastrium.
I read the article about barracks life and I know barracks life very well in the ROK Army as I to have been packed in their barracks before for weeks due to joint training my unit does with the ROK Army. It is cramped but the ROK Army soldiers have been living like this since the Korean War and there weren't any shooting rampages then. It is the mentality of the youth that is changing that are not willing to live in these conditions because they have had a more comfortable life than their parents and they don't believe in their military service anymore. If soldiers believe in the mission they can endure alot. However, this generational change is beginning to show cracks in the ROK Army that at some point can only be repaired through an all volunteer army. This is probably 10 years down the road but the ROK government should start planning for it and making money available to greatly upgrade the ROK Army because it is coming.
Yes, this Hwa byung is a critical mass of accumulated anger generated by the 5,000 years of Korean Mafia culture. As the Koreans even admitted in its media — "We have a culture of harassment and abuse"
Silly USKF is itself being abused by Korea in the same manner. When is America going to have its own cathartic rampage — by walking out and leaving Korea to the Koreans?
Well, if we have soldiers like GI, I guess we will keep taking it up the ass forever… waiting for that mythical all-volunteer Korean Army.
We are already down sizing the USFK forces because we are not needed here in the current configuration of forces. Within 10 years we will probably be down to one combat brigade stationed down south and that's it. Once that happens the Koreans will be responsible for their own security which their is already issues with which is evident by the refugees infiltrating the DMZ. An all volunteer army would be more professional and diligent in their duties. However, the Korean government is going to have to pump a lot of money into the ROK Army which right now they are unwilling to do.
If you say that Korea had been a part of China until Sino-Japan war in late 19th century, their history may be told 5,000 years actually with Chinese.
But when we hear from Korean proudly speaking of 5,000 years, I can't help laughing at them in my mind….
