Some How I Don’t See This Happening
I will be amazed if this construction project ever happens Building a road from China to Taipei just doesn’t seem possible. But going to the moon not to long ago never seemed possible, so who knows maybe the Chinese can do it.

Just tried the link & couldn't get it to work.
I hope you'll find the time to publish key excerpts here, or find another link. I'm utterly amazed at the possible implication.
If Taiwan is going to consider voluntarily join in a project of building a road to the mainland (?!) then that's going to cost them an enormous amount of money (which would presumably be diverted from spending on needed armaments to protect them from mainland attack).
If this is the case (Taiwanese legislators cheerfully say to each other, "No problem! The good old USA's defense budget will compensate for our lack of one!") —
then we (the US) should cheerfully wish them well, and amend the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 to withdraw our promise to defend them.
Same idea as for the ROK! It's not our job to do for Asian democracies that which they are unwilling to do for themselves.
