Picture of the Day: Students Protest Japanese Embassy; Will They Go To Chinese Embassy as Well?
A group of university students protests in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul on July 29, 2015, demanding that Japan make a sincere apology for its wartime crimes during its 1910-45 colonial rule over Korea. The pickets say “Japan, a war criminal state, should apologize before history.” (Yonhap)
I wonder if these same protesters will go protest in front of the Chinese embassy as well and demand an apology for war crimes committed against Korea by the government responsible for it still in power to this day?
I don’t think that the Chinese are paying them to protest against Communists.
Setnaffa, that’s the thing these students don’t need to be paid to protest Japan. Anti-Japanese sentiment has been so programed into South Korean culture they likely feel that this is their patriotic duty to do while turning a blind eye to China. You will not see anti-Chinese sentiment promoted by the ROK government or media because there will be consequences compared to letting these students go bash Japan where there is no blow back.
I think there is a false equivalence here.
Some of what Japan did in WWII were actual war crimes. I don’t know what China did in the Korean War that was a war crime. As a matter of fact, I think China was pretty much in line with exactly what we would do.

Declare it a 51st state for their own protection. Put the children in reeducation camps. Execute the weak. Make chain gangs with the strong. Turn the raape squads loose on the women. Suck out their oil. Chop down their timber. Strip mine their minerals. Depth charge their fish. Dump trash on the tundra. Ban them from making pop music. Force them to spit on the maple leaf while wrapped in an American flag. Torture anyone who dares to speak French. Only allow them to sing Oh America and God Save the President.

Mao with Stalin helped to plot the North Korean invasion of the ROK. In fact he transferred battle hardened ethnic Koreans that fought with him during the revolutionary war against the Nationalists to the North Korean military. Plotting to destroy an independent country that led to the deaths of over a million Koreans and then invading when things did not go as expected is not false equivalence. Plus continuing to keep the nation divided by enabling a regime that has human rights abuses that would make Hitler blush is not false equivalence. As bad as the Imperial Japanese were, what China has done to the ROK is far worse than anything Japan ever did to Korea.
So funny JoeC starts talking about false comparisons and then offers an example without awareness.
We all have off days, so let’s drop it. We did things like that to establish the Banana Republics under woodrow Wilson, so maybe JoeC was saying Progressive Americans are like Chinese Communists?
