ROK Presidential Contender Mocked for Apartments on Top of Schools Idea

Why don’t they just knock down the old school and make an entirely new building? That seems easier than building on top of an old school:

Presidential contenders have come up with various ideas to increase the housing supply and prevent further price escalation.

The most sensational among them so far is former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun’s plan to build apartments on top of school buildings, a plan which is drawing huge attention ― mostly mockery and sarcasm.

Chung, a presidential hopeful of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), announced the plan to redevelop old schools and turn them into residential-school complexes.

“On the sites of public schools, we could erect a building where the first to fifth floors are used as a school and the sixth and above floors as residential spaces so that parents and students can live there while the children attend the school,” Chung said during a press conference at the National Assembly, Tuesday.

Through this plan, he pledged to provide 200,000 homes in Seoul alone, as a part of his promise to provide 2.8 million homes nationwide through various projects in both the public and private sectors during his term if he is elected president next March.

Kim Yong-chol Latest North Korean Regime Figure to Denounce CCPT Military Exercise

I think what the Kim regime is signaling with these statements against the upcoming CCPT military exercise between the US and the ROK is that they are running out of patience with the Moon administration:

Kim Yong-chol, head of North Korea’s United Front Department / Yonhap

South Korea and the U.S. began a four-day preliminary drill, Tuesday, in the run-up to the main combined exercise set to kick off next week.

“They must be made to clearly understand how dearly they have to pay for answering our good faith with hostile acts after letting go the opportunity for improved inter-Korean relations,” Kim said in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency.

His statement came one day after Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, also denounced South Korea and the U.S., Tuesday, for pushing ahead with the exercises despite her earlier warning that they would “cloud inter-Korean relations.” Following her announcement, the North stopped answering the South’s telephone calls via liaison and military hotlines. The two Koreas had made calls twice a day since the lines were restored July 27. (………)

“As Kim Yo-jong clarified its plans in the denunciation of the combined exercises in a statement on March 15, the North Korean regime is highly anticipated to ditch the inter-Korean military agreement, while disbanding the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country and the Mount Geumgang International Tourism Bureau.”

You can read more at the link, but the Kim regime has likely long been told by the Moon administration that a deal with the U.S. is near and has yet to deliver. With Moon’s time in office rapidly coming to end the Kim regime is likely seeing they need to push the Moon administration harder to get a deal done.

Despite Increased Virus Protocols, South Korea Sees Highest Daily Case Average Ever

Really the only thing South Korea can do next to curb the virus is to make people shelter in place, which I don’t will work anyway:

South Korea’s daily new coronavirus cases reached a new high of over 2,200 on Wednesday since the start of the pandemic in January last year in the face of monthlong toughened virus curbs and a slower than expected vaccination campaign.

The country added 2,223 COVID-19 cases, including 2,145 local infections, raising the total caseload to 216,206, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).

The latest caseload was up 683 from 1,540 the previous day. The country added one more deaths from COVID-19, raising the death toll to 2,135.

North Korea Not Answering Inter-Korean Phone Line

Kim Yo-jong is so upset she won’t let anyone answer the phone now:

This photo, provided by the defense ministry on July 27, 2021, shows a South Korean service member using the inter-Korean western military communication line

North Korea did not answer daily phone calls from South Korea via liaison and military hotlines on Tuesday afternoon, hours after the sister of the North’s leader Kim Jong-un blasted Seoul and Washington for going ahead with combined military exercises.

The inter-Korean communication lines — the liaison hotline and the military channels in the eastern and western border regions — were in normal operation until the morning but the afternoon calls went unanswered, officials said.

“The daily call via the inter-Korean liaison office at 5 p.m. did not take place,” a unification ministry official said, adding that they are closely monitoring the situation.

Secretary of Defense Says Mid-September COVID Shots Will Be Mandatory for U.S. Troops

It looks like U.S. service members better get ready to roll up their sleeves or find something else to do as a profession:

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin speaks at a press briefing at the Pentagon in Washington on July 21, 2021. Austin has said he is working expeditiously to make the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for military personnel and is expected to ask Biden to waive a federal law that requires individuals be given a choice if the vaccine is not fully licensed. (Kevin Wolf/AP)

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday said he will seek President Joe Biden’s permission by mid-September to require all troops receive the coronavirus vaccine regardless of whether the shots obtain full federal approval.

“I want you to know that I will seek the president’s approval to make the vaccines mandatory no later than mid-September, or immediately upon the U.S. Food and Drug [Administration] licensure, whichever comes first,” Austin wrote in his message. “Public reporting suggests the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine could achieve full FDA licensure early next month.”

Biden said last week during a news conference that he expects the FDA will approve the vaccines by the early fall.

Kim Yo-jong Again Unhappy with Announcement that CCPT Exercise Will Continue

Here we go again with Kim Yo-jong playing the bad cop for the North Korean regime:

Seoul and Washington kicked off their four-day crisis management staff training Tuesday as a prelude to their annual summertime military exercise next week, and Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean leader’s sister, issued a statement the same day slamming the joint drill. Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean leader’s sister, lambasted Seoul and Washington Tuesday for their annual summertime joint military exercise and demanded the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Korean Peninsula.

Through an English-language statement in the North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim expressed her “deep regret at the perfidious behavior of the south Korean authorities,” warning that a “a dear price should be paid.”

You can read more at the link, but the Joint CCPT exercise has reportedly already been significantly scaled down; to scale it down anymore would probably turn it into a meeting and Kim Yo-jong would probably still complain.
