President Moon Declares that South Korea Will Cut Carbon Emissions By 40% By 2030

President Moon is doing what just about every other world leader is doing, setting a lofty emissions goal that he won’t be responsible for making happen. When it doesn’t happen he can just blame the person in power in 2030 for not making it happen when he is already long out of office:

President Moon Jae-in officially declared South Korea’s commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from the 2018 levels by 2030 as he addressed the annual U.N. climate conference.

Moon also said South Korea will try to bring carbon emissions down on the entire Korean Peninsula by pushing for tree planting campaigns in North Korea during a keynote speech at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.

South Korea’s reduction target represents a sharp raise from its previous goal of 26.3 percent.

“This is a bold objective that was raised by about 14 percent from the previous target,” Moon told the climate summit that brought together more than 100 heads of state, including U.S. President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

You can read more at the link, but I don’t know how Korea will make this emissions target without nuclear energy that President Moon says he wants to get rid of. The few solar farms they have are already causing deforestation and devastating farming and there isn’t enough windmills to make a difference.

School Principal Spy Cam Found in Female Teachers’ Restroom

Another pervert has been uncovered and this time it was a school principal spying on his own female teachers:

A spycam installed in a tissue box was found recently in a restroom for female teachers at an elementary school in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. The principal of the school who installed the camera was arrested, Saturday. Courtesy of Gyeonggi teachers’ union

Teachers’ groups are calling for a thorough investigation and heavy punishment for an elementary school principal who was arrested for allegedly installing a hidden camera in a restroom for female faculty members.

Members of the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations and its Gyeonggi Province branch issued a joint statement, Friday, calling for strong punishment of the principal to discourage others from committing such voyeuristic sex crimes. (…..)

Meanwhile, a local court issued an arrest warrant for the 57-year-old, whose name was withheld, Saturday, for violating the law on sex crimes, saying he was likely to flee or destroy evidence, according to Anyang Dongan Police.

The principal allegedly installed a spycam inside a tissue box beside a toilet in the restroom for female teachers at his school in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, which was found by a teacher.

The principal allegedly tried to dissuade teachers from reporting the incident to police, but the teachers reported it anyway.

The police, suspicious of the principal’s reluctance, talked with him and found out he installed the camera. He claimed he bought the camera for security purposes and installed it the previous day to check if it works, and he had no intention to commit a sex crime, according to the police.

Lee Jae-Myung If Elected Says He Will Launch Real Estate Supervisory Service and Force Koreans to Sell Their Land

Look who wants to start a real estate corruption agency, the person accused of being involved in a massive real estate scandal:

Lee Jae-myung, the presidential nominee of the ruling Democratic Party, has said that, if elected, he will launch a real estate supervisory service in an effort to root out corruption in the property market.

Lee made the remark during an interview with Yonhap News Agency on Friday, saying he would give the service powers to conduct investigations into any irregularities that arise in the real estate market.

The pledge comes as Lee has been accused of involvement in a massive corruption scandal surrounding an apartment development project undertaken in Seongnam, south of Seoul, in 2015 when he was the city’s mayor.

“We have to create a real estate supervisory service with actual powers to wield investigative authority and investigate every day,” Lee told Yonhap at a hotel in Seongnam.

This is what people in Korea should probably be concerned about:

If the envisioned supervisory service is launched, he said it will look into irregularities, such as speculative purchases of farmland, and force the sales of plots that are not being used for farming.

So if you have a plot of land you are holding on to for whatever reason Lee will make you sell it. If elected people better hurry up and put a hobby garden on whatever land they own.

South Korean Police Ready to Crackdown on Halloween Parties this Weekend

It will be interesting to see how effective these COVID patrols are going to be over the weekend:

South Korean police in metropolitan districts will be cracking down on COVID-19 violations over Halloween weekend, particularly in areas frequented by foreigners and young adults.

Roughly 200 additional police officers and city workers from Yongsan, Hongdae, Itaewon and other popular districts in Seoul will conduct joint patrols between Thursday and Sunday, a senior law enforcement official told Stars and Stripes on the customary condition of anonymity.

“Patrollers, including city council officers and cops, will check whether folks are keeping a safe distance from others, wearing masks and avoiding large gatherings,” the senior law enforcement official said Wednesday. “We’ll visit businesses and guide folks to follow disinfection guidance as well.”

Although Halloween is not officially observed in the country, the holiday prompts parties and other events catered toward younger crowds and foreigners. Districts like Itaewon and Hongdae in Seoul are known for their foreigner-friendly businesses and are home to numerous bars and nightclubs.

Lee Jae-myung Wants to Limit the Number of Restaurants in South Korea

Someone needs to give Presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung a lesson in capitalism:

Ruling Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung stirred controversy with his idea of putting a cap on the number of restaurants in the country, which the main opposition party described as “a totalitarian idea.”

During his visit to a traditional market in Gwanak District, Seoul, Wednesday, Lee floated the idea, saying, “I have a thought of running a system that puts a cap on the number of restaurants.”

Lee mentioned the idea while expressing concerns over the large number of people opening eateries, only to close them down after failing to make ends meet.

“Though debate is required for this idea, I think the system is necessary,” Lee said during a meeting with stall owners at the market. “I wasn’t able to introduce the system due to concerns that it could infringe on freedom, but I don’t think such a cap is a bad idea … It is not freedom to open restaurants randomly and go broke. Good regulations are needed.”
