ROK Army Trainee Dies After Running Laps in Full Gear

I had no idea that the ROK military does not allow trainees to run with their gear on. After this incident I am sure word is going to get out broadly to not allow trainees to run with gear on:

A violation of military regulation occurred with a recent trainee soldier’s death during a training exercise, an Army official told local media Monday.

In a meeting with reporters, the unnamed official confirmed that there “had been a situation that was not in accordance with (military) regulation” during the exercise. The official refused to elaborate, saying the case was still under investigation by the police and the military.

According to the Army, the trainee soldier died Saturday while being treated at a civilian hospital, two days after collapsing at a unit in Inje, Gangwon Province, at around 5:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The deceased had been carrying out a training exercise that is not part of the regular program, conducted usually as a disciplinary action when the commander deems it necessary. A total of six soldiers took part in the said training, which involved them running laps around the grounds while fully equipped with their gear.

Should Females Not Climb Korea’s Mountains Alone?

That is what one elderly Korean woman warned a Youtuber recently hiking alone on a mountain:

A video of a middle-aged woman warning a female YouTuber who climbed the mountain alone, saying, “You shouldn’t come to the mountain alone,” is a hot topic online.

On the 27th, a number of online communities posted an article titled “A lady advising a female YouTuber who climbs alone.”

This article is a compilation of a video filmed by YouTuber “A Million Songhee in the Mountain” with 280,000 subscribers at Samaksan Mountain in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on the 25th of last month.

At that time, YouTuber 1 million Song-hee said, “There are really no people today,” and “It’s a little scary because it’s been a long time since I’ve experienced this.”

Meanwhile, a middle-aged woman A, whom she encountered, began to tell a million Song-hee how dangerous it was to climb a mountain alone.

A said, “My friend was supposed to go with me, but I had a puncture, so an old lady went to the mountain alone,” and “A man sexually harassed and died on the spot.” It’s been about five years,” he told a million Songhee about what happened in the past.

Chinese Woman on Trial in Korea for Stealing Chip Technology from SK Hynix for Huawei

I don’t know why any company withe sensitive technology would hire a Chinese national when China literally has a law that states their citizens must assist with espionage if asked:

A Chinese national who worked for SK hynix is on trial for allegedly stealing key semiconductor technology from the Korean chipmaker for Chinese IT firm Huawei, the latest in a series of chip technology leaks to Chinese firms, according to the police, Tuesday.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police said a woman in her 30s, a Chinese national, was sent to prosecutors last month on suspicion of violating the Act on Prevention of Divulgence and Protection of Industrial Technology.

The former SK hynix employee was hired by the company in 2013 and worked in the department responsible for analyzing defects in semiconductor designs. From 2020 to 2022, she was involved in consultations with business-to-business client in China, according to the police agency.

The Chinese national returned to Korea in June 2022, and moved to Chinese IT company Huawei the same month. Shortly before leaving the Korean company, she allegedly printed out more than 3,000 sheet of documents related to front-end semiconductor manufacturing technology.

North Korea Restarts Flying Propaganda Leaflets Over the DMZ

I can remember over 20 years ago when North Korea was sending propaganda leaflets into South Korea and it appears we are going back to those times:

South Korea’s military said Tuesday it is vetting objects assumed to be propaganda leaflets distributed by North Korea.

“The military is taking measures after unidentified objects assumed to be North Korean propaganda leaflets were found in border areas in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a notice sent to the press.

The JCS advised residents in the areas to refrain from accessing the objects and report to nearby military or police authorities in the event they discover such objects.

Earlier, North Korea warned of taking “tit-for-tat action” against the distribution of anti-Pyongyang leaflets in border areas.

“Mounds of wastepaper and filth will soon be scattered over the border areas and the interior of the ROK and it will directly experience how much effort is required to remove them,” Kim Kang-il, the North’s vice defense minister, said in a statement released via state media, using the acronym for South Korea’s official name.

North Korea Warns It Will Take Military Action Against South Korea Over Alleged NLL Violations

Since North Korea has never recognized the NLL from their point of view any South Korean movements along the NLL are violations they can use as an excuse for a provocation:

The current NLL is depicted with the Blue line and North Korea’s claimed NLL is depicted with the Red line.

North Korea threatened Sunday to take action against South Korea over what it claims are violations of the de facto western maritime border, ratcheting up tensions ahead of a trilateral summit in Seoul.

North Korea’s supreme military leadership instructed its army on Friday to take offensive action against the encroachment upon its sovereignty, North Korea’s Vice Defense Minister Kim Kang-il said, according to the country’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

“We officially warn that we can never tolerate such continued encroachment on our maritime sovereignty and that we may exercise our self-defensive power on or under the water at any moment,” Kim said in a statement carried by the KCNA.

The statement came hours before South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will have back-to-back bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the presidential office.

North Korea’s Satellite Launch Ends with a First Stage Explosion

I hope the Russian rocket technology has a warranty the North Koreans can cash in on after this latest launch failure:

North Korea said Tuesday that its latest attempt to launch a new rocket carrying a military reconnaissance satellite ended in failure due to the midair explosion of the rocket during the first-stage flight this week.

The vice general director of the North’s National Aerospace Technology Administration (NATA) said the rocket carrying the satellite, the Malligyong-1-1, exploded after it lifted off from the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground on the country’s northwest coast on Monday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The launch came just hours after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held a trilateral summit in Seoul and reaffirmed their commitment to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula.
