North Korea Increasing Surveillance Against Illegal Cell Phones

Via One Free Korea comes this news that the Kim regime has supposedly up their detection capability of Chinese cell phone signals originating within North Korea by using German technology:

According to local sources, North Korean authorities have recently begun carrying small, German manufactured radar detectors when patrolling near the Chinese border for the purpose of monitoring international phone calls made on Chinese-made cell phones.

These intensified measures follow a proliferation of stationary detectors installed in North Hamgyong Province in conjunction with enhanced wiretapping technology, as previously reported by Daily NK. [Daily NK]

You can read more at the link to include over at One Free Korea who has good commentary about this issue.  Considering all the shell companies the North Koreans have it would probably be very difficult for German companies to prevent the cell of such devices, but it definitely should be investigated.

North Korea Announces that It Has Restarted Its Nuclear Facilities, Threatens to Nuke the US

It appears the Kim regime is trying to draw a wedge between South Korea and the United States by staging a major provocation next month with their announced rocket launch and now restarting their nuclear reactors.  Next month also just so happens to be when the Inter-Korean family reunions were announced to happen.  When the provocation occurs this will force the ROK government to decide whether to cancel the reunions which could have domestic political blowback for President Park:

North Korea said Tuesday it has resumed operations at a key nuclear facility and is prepared to use nuclear weapons against the United States.

The posting by the North’s state news agency came a day after Pyongyang said it has the right to conduct rocket launches anytime it chooses, fueling expectations that the provocative communist nation will conduct a satellite test next month as part of 70th anniversary celebrations of its ruling party.

The North is believed to use rocket launches, which it says are intended to put satellites into space for peaceful purposes, as a cover for ballistic missile tests.

On Tuesday, the North’s Korea Central News Agency said “all the nuclear facilities in Yongbyon, including the uranium enrichment plant and 5 MW graphite-moderated reactor, were rearranged, changed or readjusted and they started normal operation.”

“If the U.S. and other hostile forces persistently seek their reckless hostile policy towards the DPRK and behave mischievously, the DPRK is fully ready to cope with them with nuclear weapons any time,” KCNA said, referring to the country’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. North Korea Announces They Will Launch A Rocket Into Space Next Month

The Kim regime has made it official that next month they will begin another provocation cycle by conducting a space launch which by UN resolutions is banned:

North Korea said Monday it is ready to launch satellites aboard long-range rockets to mark a key national anniversary next month, a move expected to rekindle animosities with its rivals South Korea and the United States.

A National Aerospace Development Administration director said the world will “clearly see a series of satellites soaring into the sky at times and locations determined” by the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party.

In comments carried by Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency, he said that the North’s outer space development sector has been making “shining achievements” ahead of the 70th anniversary of the ruling party’s founding that falls on Oct. 10. He said North Korea is pushing forward on a final development phase for a new earth observation satellite for weather forecasts.

The launches, if made, are certain to trigger an international standoff, with Seoul, Washington and other neighboring countries viewing seeing past launches as disguised tests of the North’s long-range missile technology.  [Stars & Stripes]
