The important change isn’t that China has suddenly sealed its borders. It hasn’t, despite the media hype. Ordinary tourism and international travel continue, and China is simultaneously maintaining or expanding some visa-free entry/transit programs for foreigners.
The significant change is that Beijing has given itself a clearer legal mechanism to selectively stop particular Chinese citizens from leaving, especially people connected to strategically important technology, industrial knowledge, sensitive government work, or national-security investigations.
The “500” may or may not be true… likely not.
You would think, after the constant stream of exaggerated and misrepresented bullshìt that comes out of media, especially social media, people would start seeing the pattern.
But most people were still claiming to be Safe & Effective because they only caught covid once after the experimental vaccine.
So I should have low expectations for everything.
