The NYT, WashPo, and South China Daily News all promise the nation who cannot master drainage in the streets of their most important cities will be able to scare the world away from defending Taiwan.

I wouldn’t make any large wagers on that.

Their economy is on the rocks, real estate is collapsing, unpaid factory workers are torching factories, and even Reuters has begun to notice the smell from the kitchen.

When it comes to our adversaries, I’m more concerned about mass production of low cost, low tech solutions than high tech craft.

We basically have to trust our agencies and defense firms are focusing on countermeasures and comparable offensive weapons that don’t require us spending millions and billions to take out things that cost hundreds or thousands.

Cost effective kind of goes against everything I have ever known about our military hardware pipeline.
