Korean Military Says Ulchi Freedom Shield Joint Exercise with U.S. Downsized Due to Extreme Heat
Does anyone really believe heat is what caused the downsize of UFS or the Lee administration trying to play nice with North Korea?:
South Korea and the United States began their annual large-scale military exercise Monday, with all eyes on whether North Korea will respond with warnings or provocations.
The Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, which aims to strengthen combined defense readiness against potential threats, particularly from North Korea, will be carried out for 11 days and concludes on Aug. 28.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said this year’s exercise would be held on a scale similar to last year’s, with about 18,000 South Korean troops taking part. The level of US participation is expected to be similar, though neither the JCS nor US Forces Korea disclosed an exact figure of the US troops.
Throughout the 11 days, troops will participate in both live and computer-simulated command post exercises and field training exercises (FTX). However, of the roughly 40 FTXs planned for this year, about half, or 20, have been postponed until September.
The JCS cited extreme heat, the need to ensure training safety and efforts to maintain a balanced combined defense posture throughout the year as reasons behind the postponement.
However, observers believe the postponement of some exercises is aligned with the Lee Jae Myung administration’s gestures for an inter-Korean thaw. The decision was made after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s influential sister Kim Yo-jong criticized the exercises, saying they have “no interest” in reviving talks with Seoul, in a statement carried by Pyongyang’s state media in July.

All I can say is it’s good we don’t need to worry about South Korea’s enemies launching an attack when it’s too hot.
If you believe it was downsized due to the heat, I have a bridge to sell you.
In the past I’ve seen over 50 heat cases in a single training event. Training went on. This past year a single heat case caused an entire week long stand down on training. I’ve seen the transition since 2020 from a military coming back from GWOT and enter a peacetime military mindset.
I can believe heat was a factor, maybe not the only one, but training has definately become less and less tough at an alarming rate.
It’s not just avoidance of heat. Pack weight has been reduced for rucks and pace has slowed down from a blistering 4.2 mph pace to around 3.1 mph pace.
To the veterans here, the current military is not the one you knew. The Biden era was extremely damaging for readiness and discipline.
GrayBlack, after considering this further, I think training for soldiers should be further reduced.
A well-trained military just encourages boots on the ground operating overpriced equipment to accomplish unclear goals.

There is an amazing energy on the left that has become destructive to so much that is right and good. But if it can be properly channeled and focused to align with America’s interests, it would be a force multiplier.
More sensitivity training rather than ruck marches and live fire drills would attract the future warriors America truly needs.
And by introducing a camo furry uniform that could be worn while remotely piloting a mech from a forward operating base in the Castro Distric, America can build a truly lethal force.
Imagine if they knew that Mexicans generally hate blacks and gays? The southern border would be secure with the right force operating the right tools.
So consider if the fraud, waste, and abuse that powers most military training is preferable to private sector efforts sponsored by companies such as PlayStation.
