I just realized America, Britian, and Singapore left in a huff.
But none of the third world countries did.
A mudflat in the burning sun, lacking in clean water, and swarming with mosquitos… is…
…home.
Juan Valdez with the big smile is probably thinking, “If only we could have all this!”
– no cholera in the mud
– no meningitis in the mosquitos
– no rats in the tents
– no cartel gunman waiting to cut off your genitals and stuff them in your mouth
Korea offered a vision of improvement for so many countries… but an achievable one instead of a fantasy.
One has to wonder if the scouts from Detroit were so eager to go home.
Judging by the boobs, this isn’t exclusively a Boy Scouts event.

Out of 42,000 attendees, there were what, <300 medical cases? Did anyone even die? Not even 1% had medical problems. That sounds like a damn fine rate considering this is supposed to be an outdoors scouting event about learning field craft.
There was a higher rate of injury in High School football events at 1.126% to 1.352%, some of which are severe and result in death. Hell, there was a higher rate of injury in High School cross country events standing at a mighty 1.31%.
Where’s that American grit? That willingness to push through adversity. If these are the type of kids America is raising, these are the type of adults who will eventually serve in the military.
