Anniversary of June 10 uprising
Anniversary of June 10 uprising
A portrait of the late student activist Park Jong-cheol is hung on the wall of a room, meant to pay tribute to Park, at the Democracy and Human Rights Memorial Hall in Seoul on June 10, 2021, the 34th anniversary of the June 10, 1987, democratization movement. Park died from torture on Jan. 14, 1987, while being interrogated by police who were cracking down on the massive wave of demonstrations demanding the country’s democratization. Room 509 of the former police torture facility, where Park was tortured to death, was transformed into a memorial hall of democracy and human rights. (Yonhap)
