Sex Education Controversy in Korean Elementary Classrooms
It appears the Korean government wants to push sex education down into elementary classrooms:
![Scenes from the Korean version of ’The Love Book“ (2001) by Pernilla Stalfelt used as Rep. Kim Byeong-wook's evidence that the books "promote homosexuality" in his inquiry towards the Education Minister on Aug. 25. [KIM BYEONG-WOOK]](https://i0.wp.com/koreajoongangdaily.joins.com/data/photo/2020/09/17/6eb64f63-c9e9-4082-ad81-538b5f0e5370.jpg?w=640&ssl=1)
In Korea, the word conservative isn’t quite enough to describe the social ban on the mention of sex especially in the public sphere. Even sex education only lightly touches on the details. Parents complain to schools for teaching students how to use condoms, never mind giving condoms out or showing educational videos about sex.
Last month, seven children’s books on sex and gender education among 199 books that were distributed to schools by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family were recalled after they were criticized by the conservative party for being inappropriate for children. Conservative parents and Christian media alike criticized the books for their “promiscuity” even though many of them have been used to teach children all over the world for decades and recognized for their educational purposes.
While it has mostly been taken for granted in Korea that sex education is lacking, the recent controversy surrounding these books has reignited the debate on whether something should be done about this status quo. (……..)On Aug. 25, Rep. Kim Byeong-wook from the opposition People Power Party singled out seven books from the list during an Education Committee meeting held at the National Assembly in Seoul for their “inadequacy” as children’s education books. He claimed the books were “too sexual,” “caused early sexualization” and “beautified homosexuality.”

@GIKorea – Our spammer buddies are back!
@Tagum City Tim And they’re in stereo now!
On the topic of the post, it’s not the sex education book authors sexualizing youth in Korea; it’s Korean society. Sex education does not promote promiscuity, “turn people gay”, or any of the other nonsensical charges against it. What it does is provide children with the appropriate information they need at their stage of life to be aware of what sex is and what it is not.
“Sex education does not turn people gay”
That’s because being on the registry keeps you from talking to young boys.
@tagumcitytime, the spammers are extremely difficult to get rid of, they change their IP addresses every time I ban them. They change names when I ban those. They change key words when I ban them. This definitely the most sophisticated spammers I have had to deal with.
Possible algorithm:
– read every word
– check for misspelling/nonsense
– compare to word count
– ban any post above the threshold
– combine with other factors (e.g. website field)
Bonus: keeps idiots out as well
AI Method:
– use Tensorflow
– lable all spam and non-spam messages
– there will be a clear difference (to a neural network)
CH: It’s a good thing you didn’t include “check for irony” in that list. You misspelled “label”. 😀
So I did. Glad you caught that.
Do you prefer Keras or PyTorch frameworks when working with TensorFlow?
…or does being on the registry keep you off the computer.
Wait… how are you on the computer now?
Does your parole officer know about this?
CH, Canadian Parole Officers are alleged to too overworked to protect the public…

CH: Well, I’m not on the registry. Odd thing, too, about the myths surrounding Gays: they’re not the ones doing the child molestation. I’m definitely not a child molestor, so of course I’m not on any registry.
Canada has parole officers? Who would’ve thought that? Aren’t they too polite to be criminals?
Oh, forgot to mention something. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, but I’m not Gay either.
By the way, I did say I’d try to take the teasing in the spirit it was offered; however, don’t you think it’s a bit over the line to insinuate or accuse me of being a pedophile?
CH is always over the line. All progressives sound Canadian. And Navy guys are often needled about their “preferences”. Even you know the video in the link.

Safest bet is to not start controversial conversations about sex and children, since that’s what started the ribbing. If anyone actually believed it, you would not have been teased, you would have been reported.
“By the way, I did say I’d try to take the teasing in the spirit it was offered…”
Teasing? Who says I am teasing?
You are less than a cockroach.
Why is that, you ask?
Well, a cockroach cannot help its nature. It simply is what it is and has no choice in that. While I will destroy them without hesitation, I always hold a small amount of regret. They are just true to themselves rather than being “bad”. Our conflict only comes about due to our cross purposes, lack of shared values, and infringement upon one another’s space as they pursue the goals fundamental to being a cockroach.
Diversity is not a strength.
And, since I am bigger and have a global logistics structure which can supply unlimited boric acid for a miniscule amount of labor, I am victorious.
Likewise, I hope to see China and Iran fail in a spectacular way. But I do not hate Chinese and Iranians. I deal with plenty of them and sometimes get a lecture about how great they are, especially in comparison to America’s failings. I remain non-political and non-nationalist and I patiently listen to the fruits of their indoctrination while responding with “is that so”, “I was not aware of that”, “that is an excellent point”, etc., at all the right times… while my alternate soundtrack screams to me that the vast majority of modern civilization is due to the accomplishments and value structures of North American/European culture… and America has been the star of that show…
…so much so that while the shìtholes and Eurotrash and globalist and Islamaboos whine and whine and whine, so many of them want to be in America, want something from America, or want America to protect them.
I don’t hate these Chinese or Iranians because they are loyal to the system they are a part of and which has given them whatever successes and happinesses they have experienced. If the Chinese support China or the Iranians support Iran, it is simply their nature.
Which leads us to you.
You claim to be American…
…but…
.. you are an enemy of America. You are a saboteur of the success of America. You are an enemy propagandist. You want America to fail. Yet you have shamelessly taken advantage of what America can offer you but you resist programs that lead it to success.
While a cockroach has no choice, you do.
You can support secure borders. You can support fair trade agreements. You can support the reindustrialization of America as well as the job creation and security it brings. You can support the end of pointless forever-wars. You can support Europe paying their fair share of everything. You can support the containment of North Korea and Iran. You can support the marginalization of China. You can support peace in the Arab world. You can support lower drug prices for Americans.
You can support the erosion of crony capitalism. You can support fewer needless corporate-supported regulations on free enterprise. You can support the massive crackdowns on pedophilia and child trafficking rings.
But you don’t.
It’s always “Trump is stupid”, “Trump is racist”, and “Trump is a clown” with you.
You have a rare chance to demonstrate your deep values by supporting a president with those goals… who clearly explained what he intended to do and then worked tirelessly to accomplish them despite constant anti-American sabotage from drones like you who have absolutely no alternative plan except lip service to some fantasy ideals and the constant verbal mastùrbation of “Fùck Trump”.
Instead, you fight against him, and by extension, you fight against those values… and by further extension, you fight against America, American interests, and the wellbeing of Americans.
…because the alternative is a continuation of Death by a Thousand Economic Cuts and cities burning in celebration of career felons… both of which are promoted by America’s enemies, and Trump’s enemies, both foreign and domestic.
Nobody is asking you to love Trump. You are being asked to love America.
“lable” (sic) …. “miniscule” (sic).
Now for the ‘rithmetic lesson. Hillary won by 3 million votes. Interference by Putin and that Aussie jackass Murdoch skewed the result in the electoral college.
setnaffa: Yep. CH is over the line. In this case, it appears to be the one marking sanity. Pity, that.
Thanks, Stephen.
Stephen…
Still your president!
Too bad Hillary didn’t ask a constitutional scholar like Obama if the determining factor in the election was popular votes or electoral votes and run her campaign accordingly.
Say it to yourself over and over until it sinks in… Hillary did not win.
It must be hard living with 47 months of REEEEEEEEEEEEEE! drenched in the saltiest of tears.
Must be harder knowing you will very likely be living with 49 months more…
…followed by President Cruz.
Johnhenry…
I may be crazy… but I’m not wrong.
You can’t even bring yourself to condemn pedophilia. And it is rare to find a pedophile sympathizer who isn’t a pedophile themselves.
Nor can you bring yourself to vocalize support for any of the pro-American programs mentioned previously.
Nice try to change the topic to my sanity, you traitorous little Canadian kiddy-toucher.
@Stephen, if the election was for popular votes the campaigns would have been totally different on each side. For example Trump would have had to campaign in heavily populated CA to get Republicans to vote there. In the electoral college it would have been a waste of time for Trump to campaign there. Same thing for Hillary she would have had to go Texas and get Democrats there to vote even though in the electoral college it was meaningless for her to campaign there.
Trump won in a near landslide following the rules and campaigning heavily in states that Hillary thought she would easily win and did not. At the end of the day he out worked her in his campaigning and who is to say that if the rules were different he still would have outworked her to get more popular votes? Complaining about the electoral college now is nothing but sour grapes.
The only thing ending the electoral college will do is disenfranchise “flyover country” and instead force campaigns to focus on getting out the vote in heavily populated cities. I for one think it is good to see these politicians have to campaign in flyover country and maintain a broader appeal to the American population.
@GIKorea: Do you have anything to say about CH’s screed and disgusting accusations directed at me above?
Stephen, that’s like saying a team should have won because although they had fewer runs, they got more hits.
Them’s the rules.
Johnhenry,
If you ask me to condemn child molestation, not only will I quickly condemn it, but I can give a detailed and rational explanation why I think it is harmful for children and bad for society.
You, on the other hand, have avoided criticizing pedophilia despite multiple opportunities.
What is everyone supposed to think?
I am not writing accusations.
I am writing observations.
@Chickenhead, I am not sure where where this whole pedophile talk came from, but let’s drop this topic. Thanks.
@GIKorea: Thank you.
