Bolton is like a pitt bull.
You keep him on a short chain and let him bark a lot to scare the neighbors.
Every now and then when someone looks at you wrong, you unhook the chain and let him loose on their crotch.
Then you put him back on the chain to resume barking and everyone treats you very politely.
