Media Criticizes Military Involvement in July 4th Celebration in Washington, D.C.
I fail to see what the big deal is about the July 4th celebration involving the U.S. military:

As they strolled along the National Mall Tuesday, visitors to the nation’s capital were just learning about the grandiose July 4th celebration that will showcase Army tanks and military flyovers beyond the usual pageantry.
“Awesome,” California school teacher and U.S. Air Force veteran Walter De Graaf, 57, said as he stood near the Washington Monument. “Let’s show America who we are. Let’s show the world who we are.”
“A little extreme,” David Havens, 67, a salesperson from Sebastian, Florida, said about the military display. “Not so sure about that.”
Trump has yet to deliver his address near the Lincoln Memorial Thursday, but his “Salute to America” already is eliciting strong opinions over whether a president revered by supporters and reviled by opponents was injecting politics in an event above the partisan fray that enjoys national appeal.
USA Today
You can read more at the link, but there is going to be two Abrams tanks and two Bradleys on static display and a fly over by military aircraft which has people all worked up like this has never happened before when it has many times in the past.
The $2.5 million cost that National Park Service reportedly said the event is going to cost has also been widely cited with claims the money would otherwise go to park improvement projects. What the media isn’t saying is that the annual fireworks show in Washington D.C. usually costs the National Park Service $2 million to put on. I have never heard the media tell the NPS to stop the annual fireworks show because it is a waste of money, it is only a waste of money when the President shows up.
That pretty much sums up all the criticism to the event, Trump is involved so it must be bad.
Anyway I hope everyone has a great 4th of July holiday.

Screw these liberal lefties and their lack of patriotism! If they want to talk about wasting money, let’s dig into the federal budget and examine the “earmarks” that almost every Senator and member of Congress adds to the burgeoning debt of the USA every year. Once they pony up the money to pay for those projects in their own districts, then we can have a discussion about spending money on celebrating the date that the colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.
I really discount the opinion of anyone, including our great President, who does not have an active duty service member or a DD-214 in their immediate family.
I especially despise those who abuse the liberty, bought with the blood of GIs, to denigrate the USA.
We hope they will wake up and repent; but we’re not holding our breath. And we’re not willing to kowtow to them.
Pretty sure the miltary was heavily involved in the first 4th of july
Some of the earlier concerns were whether this would attempt to satisfy parade envy over the displays they put on in Paris, Moscow and Pyeongyang. That didn’t happen.
@JoeC, “the earlier concerns” expressed so much contempt toward our military that you should not try to defend them. The idea that they would defend usurpation of the rights of any Americans, much less their their friends and families is enough to start a fight in any VFW or American Legion hall.
Trump is a showman, sure; but he is not a dictator. And the constant barrage of attacks from both parties and the media proves that beyond all doubt. If he were, there would have already been thousands of “accidents”…
Maybe you forgot the joke? It seems during WW2, three generals were arguing who had the bravest soldiers.
During WW2, three generals were arguing who had the bravest soldiers.
Long
The British general called one of his men over.
“Private! See that nazi tank in the minefield there? Go destroy it.”
“Sir!” The soldier replied and started running.
He ran across the unmarked minefield until within range of the tank with his anti-tank weapon, took aim and fired, destroying the tank all the while under heavy fire from the enemy trenches.
“See, British soldiers are the bravest.”
“That’s nothing” said the Russian General
“Comrade! See that enemy soldier manning that machine gun there? Run across the mines into the trenches and kill him with a knife.”
“Da, Comrade General!”
The Russian soldier bravely charges across the minefield under heavy fire, jumped into the trenches fought his way through many enemy soldier then being shot many times from the machine gun nest before reaching that soldier and slicing his throat after a bloody brawl.
“Nobody more brave than Russian soldier.”
The American general, unimpressed said “Let me show you all what real courage is.”
He calls one of his men over.
“Private! See that enemy command post over there? I want you to run naked across the minefields, fight your way through the trenches, go to the command post and kill the commanding officer bare handed!”
Without hesitation, the American soldier flips him the bird and says
“Go fuck yourself, General.”
“See! Now that takes some real balls!”
I still miss the “edith” button… 😳
“Private! See that enemy command post over there? I want you to run naked across the minefields, fight your way through the trenches, go to the command post and kill the commanding officer bare handed!”
Without hesitation, the American soldier turns and vanishes.
Fifteen minutes later, he returns and informs the general that the commanding officer at the command post across the minefield and through the trenches is dead.
The Russian and British sneered and said they did not see him run naked through the minefield. They knew the enemy was dead but didn’t believe it was done as ordered.
The American general smiled and said…
“Actually, America is results-oriented rather than process-oriented. That’s why we win wars.”
Then generals and politicians started caring about what loud fat military-hating stinkin’ pinko hippies were yelling about and decided the process of accepting pole-smokers and trannies and women with inferior requirements and quotas of ghetto rats was more important than results.
And wars were not won again.
CH, that’s why I picked a WW2 joke. I thought no one would guess…
Overall the 4th of July celebration was much to do about nothing. I am willing to bet President Trump insisted on having tanks and bradleys present just to troll the leftists and the media who he counted on would go crazy about it. You would think they would learn by now to ignore the obvious trolling, but they can’t help themselves.
GI, you may be too young to remember; but the Independence Day parades even in Democrat cities and towns always had a military participation. Vietnam poisoned some of that; but Trump was being nostalgic.
I cannot agree what he fid was much to do about nothing. The Democrats, famous for ignoring Soviet tanks in Hungary (1955) and Czechoslovakia (1968), not to mention Chinese tanks in Tiananmen Square in the late 80s, want you to forget the children they murdered near Waco, TX, when Clinton and Reno burnt down the Branch Davidians.
They were just imagining what they have done and would do with tanks in America…
