Critics Claim Yoon Suk-yeol’s Wife is His Own Choi Soon-sil

Here is the latest attempt to bring down Yoon Suk-yeol’s campaign through criticisms of his wife:

Kim Keon-hee, the wife of People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Suk-yeol, holds a press conference regarding allegations she falsified her credentials on job applications at the party’s headquarters in Seoul on Dec. 26, 2021. (Pool photo) (Yonhap)

The latest fodder emerged Sunday during MBC TV’s airing of recordings of phone calls between Yoon’s wife, Kim Keon-hee, and a reporter for a liberal YouTube channel, in which Kim claimed she was a “spiritual” person who preferred discussing the meaning of life with “dosas,” or gurus, to visiting nightclubs.

Kim’s remark received attention because she has previously been reported to have close ties to shamanism and introduced certain shamans to her husband.

Then, local newspaper Segye Times reported Monday that a shaman introduced by Kim has been exercising undue influence over Yoon’s campaign while working as an adviser for a subunit named “Network Headquarters.”

The PPP scrambled to dispel the allegations, saying the person in question is not a shaman but a Buddhist figure who has made several visits to the campaign but has never been appointed an adviser nor had any sway in the campaign.

On Tuesday, the party announced the dissolution of the Network Headquarters, saying the decision was made by Yoon.

When asked to address the claims, Yoon expressed disbelief.

“I was introduced to him by a party official and we introduced ourselves, but I know him to be a monk,” the candidate told reporters Monday. “I saw the article about (him being involved in) my schedule and public messaging, but it’s a truly absurd story.”

Yoon’s opponents have likened his wife to Choi Soon-sil, a confidante of former conservative President Park Geun-hye, who was also accused of having ties to shamanism and running state affairs from behind the scenes.

Yonhap

You can read more at the link, but the comparison to Choi Soon-sil is ridiculous when Choi was essentially a lobbyist collecting money from Samsung for her sports foundation in return for influence over then President Park. The shamanism claims was just sensationalism added to the story by the media. What is going on now with the claims against the Yoon campaign is likely the same thing. With that said his Kim Keon-hee needs to be careful what she says to the media because they will use anything she says in or out of context to damage her husband’s campaign.

I don’t think it’s just leftist Korean media making things up when this woman has been recorded saying some really damning things to say to suggest that she is another Choi Soon Shil. Just like Park Geun Hye did also, her hubby reads out his responses to press questions. So who’s the real leader? She or he?

Korean Man, you’re acting like you’ve never even dated a woman, much less been married to one.

And if Moon’s “wife” was examibed so minutely, one might find she had occasionally said silly things too.

Some Christians, Jews, Muslims, and yes, Pagans talk of “spirituality.” Outside of the actual context of the conversation, it’s a meaningless phrase.

Plus, are you suggestingbthat all Koreans who speak to and/or about shamanism are corrupt and should be imprisoned or banned from holding any government positions?

I think putting a religious litmus test on the family members of those seeking office is very much like the end of South Korea as we know it. It spells a forced State religion as thd Buddhists and Confucianists had centuries ago. Do you want Koreans killing Koreans over religion?

And if you doubt it, look up the news footage of the fight between Buddhist faction in the mid-1990s where one side even threw fire-bombs at the police.

If you actually loved Korea, you’d be trying to putbout the flames, not fan them into something fatal. There3 already a lot of trouble.

The Seggye Times which Yonhap quotes for the story above is a center right newspaper, which sometimes also follow the right wing narrative of the Chosun, Joongang, and Donga Ilbos.

Not exactly your scenario of Korean leftist reporters attacking the wife of the conservative candidate.

TOK, you are pushing a fantasy where journalists are not political operatives. That world only exists in your mind or in movies from the 1930s.

I think we all do agree that reporters and the editors that look over them are human beings and thus will be tempted by their political beliefs, commercial interests, and their bosses when writing and publishing their stories.

If Yonhap quoted the Hankoryeh, a well know leftist paper then we can all be forgiven for being tempted to think that the leftists may be blowing things out of proportion.

But Yonhap quoted the Segye Times, which is well known for its right wing views.

So this particular story is not a leftist attempt to attack the wife of a conservative presidential candidate as suggested by you, since it was published by a right wing newspaper.

Why they decided to publish this story, well we can all speculate. Attention grabbing to increase clicks? Not wanting to be left out of the reporting cycle? etc.

But, again in this case, it certainly wasn’t a “slag Korean leftist reporter” taking shots at Yoon and his wife.

And don’t tell me you think the Segye Times is a left wing newspaper, because if you do then it proves that you have no understanding of how things are in Korea.

Belief in shamanism is pretty much anti-science though.

Next thing we’ll hear is Kim Keon-hee on the Joe Rogan show.

Read the post. Leftist youtube channels are leftist. I Do not know nor care what leftists claim are left or right wing. There are plenty of leftists willing to claim to be conservative. Look at Anna Navarro and David French, for example.

Who is Joe Rogan? I assume he must be conservative from the context; but I really don’t know him. Don’t really have time for that kinda thing.

Maybe I’m not “with it”; but I don’t watch any talking heads on TV or youtube. I also don’t listen to them on the radio or via internet podcasts.

I might listen to GI or CH if they started something as they are actually interesting and well-grounded; but most of the popular minstrel shows are just trying to sell books. And I already have my favorite science fiction authors.

You lefty guys need to get more fresh air. Your debate skills are wilted. Maybe eat more fiber, too. You’re getting kinda weedy and whingey.
