AAFES Sucks

The forum AAFES Sucks is looking for feedback from soldiers stationed in Asia.  So if you have a gripe with AAFES they want to hear from you.  One of my favorite gripes with AAFES in Korea was with a Class VI store that always had products that I could see in its back store room that for some reason would never make it out on to the store’s shelves.

The snack bar on Camp Hovey is the worst AAFES establishment in the company.

They no longer sell large coffee. But they will sell you a small one for a dollar. They say they are out, but all over Camp Casey they are selling them.

Pizza inflation just went up a dollar.

And the fact that the employees talk smack in Korean every time you order a pizza after 930pm. Ohhhhh…thats right…..it says you open the doors at 7am and arrive at home at 2200……see I've had it wrong the whole time……Instead of being at PT at 6 I'll just start waking up at 6……

How about all the non-Americans that don't even get their IDs checked at the damn register….But they check every americans ID….(maybe a little backwards you think?)

Yea i work with aafess shoppette in kaiserslautern Germany. This place is so bad the manger, every week look like their new people. Because noone wants to work their. The german people try to hold the American people back. If the American ask for something we get no but if the Germany people ask yes because the head manger is in the Germany system. Many Americans has complained but they still dont do anying at the head office. This place sucks want you to work hard and dont want to pay anything.

Screw AAFES. I don't shop there unless I don't have a choice, which is less often than you might think considering I am in Korea. When in the US I avoid them like the plague.

I don't want AAFES to go away–I am grateful that we have access to AAFES facilities overseas. I just wish they were managed to better serve their customer. There is just so much of a not-give-a-damn attitude.

I love how when they had gas prices set in 2006 they said they had to raise the prices to keep them consistent with prices stateside even though it went against their policy. As of 8/22 the stateside average is 2.981 and here in Okinawa we are still paying $4.06. What happened to keeping the prices consistent with the stateside average. Thanks for screwing your customers AAFES.

Where's the pay back to all the soldiers bilked out of their money? The perp, Holloway, is going to jail. It's time for the company to stand up, take responsibility and make it right.

$25,000 diamond ring in the jewelery case of the Yongsan PX. When I first saw that, I asked myself who would be able to afford a $25,000 ring? (Excluding the stupid people that would buy it for a juicy girl). I couldn't think of any authorized patron that would buy it. Then I realized that an unauthorized Korean, who has nothing to fear about getting caught, could buy it, avoid paying any kind of taxes and live happily ever after.

1. Theft

The truck drivers that pick up AAFES goods from Camp Market stop at a rest area shortly leaving Cp Market where the trucks are opened and pilfered by Koreans. (Documented by CID).

2. Theft

Class VI items from several AAFES facilities to include: the underground tunnel system that was in place for 7 years and resulted in a loss of a documented 25,000 cases of beer and an undisclosed amount of liquor and other items. Also documented by CID.

3. Theft

When is the last time you saw a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label on the shelf? Thats right, that one item never makes it onto the shelf, its just stolen by the Koreans plain and simple. Go to a bar/restaurant in Gangnam and look on the menu and see that a bottle goes for 1,500,000 won.

3. Theft

Class VI at Camp Humphreys where several thousand cases of beer and God only knows how much liquor had been driven off base by an AAFES employee in a truck. The AAFES employee claimed the date on the beer was an expiration date when in fact the date was a manufacture date. US couldn't touch him, the Korean Govt. prosecuted him for trying to poison people.

4. Theft

Electronics after electronics never make it to the shelf. Why? Because AAFES employees put everything onto a truck and sell it on the local economy via the black market. T.V.s, computers, and especially iPods. For months iPods went out the back door and onto the local economy where the AAFES employees sold them, converted the won to US and paid AAFES for the items. CID got this one too. (this is the reason you have your ID card scanned at the register)

5. Theft

Fuel, my God in heaven the amount of gasoline that leaves the AAFES facility in the tanks of unauthorized persons. How do you fix it? You adopt the same system as in Germany. An American works at the AAFES gas station and verifies a US Govt ID card authorized to purchase gasoline and matches that with a ration control card that is swiped to deduct from the total monthly alotment of fuel your vehicle is authorized. The ration card is presented with your ID card and vehicle registration and verified against the car sitting at the pump.

I could go on and on, but here is the bottom line. AAFES and the USFK leadership know about the theft of American goods by Koreans and they know the Koreans are stealing the US blind at every opportunity. AAFES will never do anything about it and neither will the USFK leadership. The reason is for strategic positioning of US personnel.

YOU DON'T SAVE ANY MONEY SHOPPING AT AAFES. THE MONEY THAT GOES TO MWR SUPPORTS THINGS LIKE THE AUTO CRAFT SHOP, SUNGNAM GOLF COURSE, MWR TRIPS, CAR SHOWS AND OTHER STUPID ATTRACTIONS THAT CATER TO A VERY VERY SPECIFIC AND SMALL POPULATION. AAFES' CONTRIBUTIONS ARE MEANINGLESS.

I CAN REMEMBER WHEN AAFES SUPPLEMENTED THE SOLDIERS INCOME BY HAVEING VERY GOOD PRICES ON THINGS. THEY ALSO CARRIED NECESSITIES AT THE BASIC LEVEL. THIS WAS DONE BECAUSE PRIVATES AND SUCH DIDN'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO AFFORD THE BARE NECESSITIES FOR THEIR 6 CHILDREN. IF FACT, AAFES CARRIED THREE GRADES OF ITEMS CHEAP, MODERATELY PRICED, AND HIGH END. NOW THEY CARRY THE SAME CHEAP JUNK AS EVERYONE ELSE. UNFORTUNATELY I BELIEVE AAFES IS TOO FAR DOWN THE ROAD TO RECOVER AND SIMPLY NEED TO BE DISBANDED.

I REMEMBER THE MILITARY CLOTHING SALES STORE BEFORE AAFES TOOK THEM OVER. BDU TOPS WERE $14.00 AND THE PANTS WERE $12.95. THE DAY AAFES TOOK OVER THE PRICE DOUBLED (CLOTHING ALLOWANCE REMAINED THE SAME)

I KNOW SOME IDIOT WILL WRITE AND SAY AAFES PROVIDES A SERVICE DOWN RANGE. OH YEA, MORE CRAP GOES OUT THE BACK DOOR THERE THAN EVEN KOREA. AND THEN THERE ARE PLACES LIKE THE PHILIPINAS WHO PROVIDE A MASSAGE, CUT YOUR FINGER NAILS AND YOUR TOE NAILS. WHAT EVERY COMBAT COMMANDER WANTS TO SEE IS ONE OF HIS ROUGH, TOUGH COMBAT SOLDIERS GETTING A PEDICURE.

I PROMISE TO WRITE A LOT MORE ABOUT HOW AAFES SUCKS, BECAUSE ITS SO EASY.

The only problem I had with AAFES in Korea was the Yongsan book store. The selection was HORRIBLE!

In general I hated AAFES. If they had something you wanted/needed at the facility it was okay. You might get a better deal off post, but generally things ran smoothly. On three separate occasions, I ordered things through PXs and Clothing Sales which were not at the store. I NEVER ONCE GOT THE ITEMS I ORDERED 👿 !!
