USS Fitzgerald Involved in Maritime Collision that Leads to Seven Sailors Missing

This is a horrible accident the USS Fitzgerald has been involved in that has caused 7 sailors to go missing and more injured:

Seven US sailors are missing and the commanding officer of a US destroyer is among the injured after the warship collided with a merchant ship off the coast of Japan, the US Navy said Friday.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald suffered damage to its starboard side above and below the waterline in the incident.
Cmdr. Bryce Benson, commander of the Fitzgerald, was one of three injured sailors who needed to be flown to a naval hospital in Yokosuka, Japan.
The two ships collided about 2:30 a.m. local time in the Pacific Ocean about 56 nautical miles from the port of Yokosuka and 12 miles off the Izu Peninsula, the Japanese coast guard said.
The Fitzgerald had left the US naval base in Yokosuka earlier Friday for routine operations in the area, a US Naval Forces Japan spokesman said. The damage to the Fitzgerald resulted in some flooding.  [CNN]

“Should be interesting to see what happened.”

I know what happened, sailors as well as all those in the military have become lackadaisical under Trump. We have MadMattis, McMasterbater, and Mike Rogers all lying for Trump, hence the lackadaisical behavior from subordinates. This NEVER happened under Obama!

“One destroyer costs 3.5 billion, which could have been used for education, health, or infrastructure”

It also could have been used to refurbish three hundred and fifty Section 8 housing projects in the ghetto with highly flammable cladding which would have paid for itself many times over in savings with future attempted education, abused healthcare, and unneeded infrastructure.

Well, it’s true no one surrendered to the Iran yet, if that’s what you mean.

Since it resulted in deaths and if it’s determined there was crew negligence there will probably be very public court martials.

No, but Trump “surrendered” to Russia and bowed to the Saudi Royals for 9/11.

The plot thickens.

The container ship that hit the destroyer made some interesting and unusual course changed.

Of course a destroyer should be able to notice other ships and avoid them… or, better, live up to its name and destroy them.

Any speculation on what was going on with the container ship and the watch crew on the destroyer?

This is how Tom Clancy novels start.

Has anyone heard about the crew of the cargo ship? I know it was Philippine flagged but I wonder what kind of crew was operating it.
