US Army Sergeant Arrested for Conducting Drug Deal In Uniform

How would you like to be the commander for the unit this guy belongs to?:

A U.S. Army sergeant stationed at Fort Bliss wore a military uniform bearing his name while allegedly selling methamphetamine to an undercover federal agent in El Paso earlier this year, court documents state.

Sgt. Derek Calderon, 25, who posted a video of himself with a stack of hundred dollar bills on social media, was arrested in connection with the meth trafficking scheme, according to the documents.

Calderon was indicted in a South Florida federal court on June 30 on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more and two counts of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more, according to the indictment. He is facing life in prison on all three charges.  [El Paso Times]

You can read more at the link, but my favorite part of the article is that not only did this guy conduct a drug deal in uniform, but then he posted the money he received after the deal on Instagram for everyone to see.

What a prime example of an American “servicemember” abroad or was that servicehimselfmember?

Looking a bit further, this whole deal seems shady. It has the feel of this type of deal:

– Loudmouth idiot brags to anybody who will listen about what a big pimp daddy he is… and how he used to move ice for the cartels back in the day… and other such nonsense to try to show everyone he is such a big playa.

– The local rat, in need of some not-completely-bullshyt intel to keep from going to jail, duly reports this to DEA fifteen minutes later.

– The DEA sends an agent poking around who talks a lot of friendly endearing smack and reaffirms what a playa he is… then mentions, by coincidence, they have a brick of meth they have to move real quick for a crazy low price… so certainly a cool guy with all that experience would jump right on that, right?

– This idiot has no money and no connection to buy or sell a brick of meth… and likely doesn’t even know anyone around him who uses… and may never have seen meth… and is still an idiot.

– DEA Agent Number 2 enters the picture and just happens to want to buy a brick of meth right away. Both the seller and the buyer just happen to be willing to work with easy financial and logistical terms so the broke and unconnected idiot can scrape the impossible deal together.

– He does the deal… which consistes of transporting DEA cash and drugs from one DEA agent to another.

– He brags on social media that he really is the pimpin playa he always thought he was… can hardly believe his luck… makes plans for an even bigger deal… dismayed at his arrest.

– The DEA announces a big bust that got eleventy million dollars in drugs off the streets, out of our neighborhoods, and away from the hands of our children.

– tax dollars are squandered at every level… from sabotaging a useful warm military body after expensive training, to two DEA guys with expense accounts circlejerking each other, to court time to deal with it all, to a lifetime of publicly-funded care and feeding while building office furniture for 15 cents an hour that a company gets rich on by selling to the military along with 200 dollar wrenches and 500 dollar toilet seats.

This happens more often than not… which is why the news is always full of busts at this level… but is seldom followed by news of a bust of the next level up supplier.

Nice.
