Should Transgender Koreans Be Exempt from Mandatory Military Service?

Here I was thinking that transgender people wanted to have their junk cut off?:

A South Korean transgender woman Wednesday lodged a human rights complaint against the military for forcing her to undergo genital surgery in order to be exempted from military duty.

The 22-year-old trans woman went through a mandatory medical checkup for the draft in 2012. She submitted a medical report that confirms a “crisis in sexual identity” and documents on her cross-sex hormone therapy to apply for a military exemption.

The Military Manpower Administration (MMA), however, rejected it, saying she would need to present convincing evidence that she would never be able to become a man again.

She had no choice but to undergo an orchiectomy and was exempted from the military duty in October 2013.

“The MMA demanded her to come up with an irreversible proof, obviously referring to the surgical removal of testicles,” Yun Da-rim, secretary general of the Korean Sexual-Minority Culture and Rights Center, told the Korea Observer.

“Those who receive military medical checkups are in their early 20s and many of them simply cannot afford to have genital surgery. Can you imagine how much an ordeal a transgender woman has to suffer to live with male conscripts?”

Yun argued that trans women should be exempted from their compulsory military duty without undergoing genital surgery as no measures have been taken to protect the rights of sexual minorities in the barracks.  [Korea Observer]

You can read more at the link, but if you still have your male body parts than you are a male and should do your mandatory military service like every other male.  Letting transgender people dodge mandatory service without the surgery would lead to non-transgender people claiming they are transgender to avoid mandatory service as well.  The ROK military needs a standard and clearing have male body parts is a pretty clear standard.

GI lay off the lithium…

As CH can surely attest to there are plenty of TG’s who prefer to remain pre-op. The MMA is being ridiculous as Yun Da-rim points out that even if one wanted to be a post-op that surgery isn’t cheap.

To even suggest it would be prudent to have pre-op’s serving in with all male units is just another sign that South Korea isn’t ready to sit at the adult table. Look at what some of guys get tortured with while doing their service and you/they want guys with jublies in there?

Your final paragraph makes me wonder if this whole article is troll bait or for some reason you swallowed a bottle of dummy pills. I’ll expand on my final thoughts if requested.

“As CH can surely attest”

Thank you, Smokes, for the complementary words and vote of confidence in my knowledge and abilities… but I must confide that I am not at all an expert in these matters.

My opinions are based purely on speculation, guesswork, and second-hand stories.

There is nothing I can really add to the topic that someone with your deep practical knowledge and long history of hands-on experiences is not well aware of.

Off the top of my head, I would say:

– Gender issues such as this are much more complex than a blanket policy and may require a range of solutions based on factors such as history, perceived commitment, and how well they pull it off… resulting in solutions ranging from “Get out of the dress and into the uniform, fag” to “Whoa! So what are YOU doin’ Friday night?”

– Even half-azzed trannys have no business in the general population of the Korean military… neither do twinks, spazzes, or the particularly weak of will. Why set everybody up for failure?

– There are other ways to fulfill the military obligation if they are deemed to be a man.

– Gender reassignment is expensive… but is castration? That may be a reasonable way to demonstrate commitment to the lifestyle. (Big, fat, dependent wives do it for free to a lot of GIs, it seems.)

– This problem is so rare that it seems almost like a non-issue… where someone just needs to make a good decision when needed.

– Smokes is always available to do package checks. Just look in the Yellow Pages for Smoke’s Professional Tranny Package Sorting and Inspection Service. It is between Smokes-spreds-’em Prostate Exam Training Volunteer and Smoke’s Glory Hole Drilling and Testing

Having trained extensively with a not-to-be-mentioned branch of the Korean SOF way back in the day, this would go over hilariously amongst the troops, as Korean troops routinely shed down to “Buck Naked” before sleeping side-by-side on an ondol heated wooden bed with something similar to a Japanese futon to sleep on, or just on the bare wood only. So if Mary Poopins has decided to adopt a Bend Over-and-Wait-and-See approach, to getting out of mandatory military service, then that is his/her/It’s problem & does not negate required military service, which Sweetness has known about since birth. Kudos for the S. Korean military for forcing the THING to go all the way & lose the BOYS for good…SUCK your way out of this one, Cupcake…

Ask and thou shalt… (in chrono order):
ChickenHead: As usual when queried about his dark fantasies pretends he’s the SGT Shultz of Homo Hill but then goes on to give a dissertation on the subject. It’s ok buddy, I don’t mind if you prefer a little perk under the skirt. You do hit the mark when you say “Why set everybody up for failure?”. If the RoK saw fit to create units for K-Poop slaves why not create one that actually deserves to be separated from the gen-pop?

BenjoDitch: I’ve been waiting to reply to one of your posts but was holding off to get a better picture of your general disposition.

GI Korea: Look at BenjoDitch’es post, that’s exactly why you can’t have TG/V/S citizens serving in regular draft units. Idiots like him who think the military is their personal guys club to hang out in doing guy 5hit and reserve the right to attack anyone they see as a threat to their dumba55 dated way of life. This is where hazing comes from, this is why Korean draftees end up going on shooting sprees at the range. The military is a public service funded by, provided to, [should be open to] all citizens not just the ones whose lifestyles are agreeable to those who serve.

Can a Korean T-whatever stand there all day doing riot duty? Of course but they should not have to share a barracks with d1ckheads who don’t know how to coexist in a modern society. The current RoK standard is that only men have to submit to the mandatory service, women get the choice to enlist at E-6. These people have t1ts, that’s not a man. So the current standard should allow for T’s to be exempted while Korea mulls over updating their rules. Forcing someone to have a part of their body removed to prove a lifestyle is an ajeoshi move.

I find it hard to believe that either you or Benjo actually believe that person would endure months to years of hormone treatment just to avoid military service. But if either of you are seriously making that assertion then George Carlin wants to ask you something:
